Speculation: Roster Building Thread: New Season Edition

Yeah, that was the report, but I don’t buy it for a second. He looked fine in the preseason.

They sent him down because they think he should be in better shape, but IMO it’s also cover for they wanted him to play harder for a too 6 spot, which they handed to f***ing Dryden Hunt over him instead. And they weren’t gonna let him get in shape on the third or fourth lines because those are their checking lines and they weren’t gonna allow skilled youth on those lines at that point of the season due to their philosophy. It was a horrible idea.

Personally i think they sent him down because Drury wanted to teach him a lesson from their issues in Hartford. There was absolutely no reason to send him down....0

The first Russian born player to have his name embossed on the Stanley Cup.
Rest In Peace

Why would krav get the 2nd line spot?
Why would kakko have it handed to him?

Besides the above question, IF otter made the team having vk on the 2nd line and kakko with chytil and otter would prevent to NHL rookies from flanking chytil. Spread the NHL rookies out a bit.

I've felt for quite awhile VK may be destined for that rw slot opposite panarin bc I think his hockey iq may be a better match for panarin moreso than kakko who he's never been on the same page with. We shall see once they start skating together.

Yeah. The league is going to have to find a way to raise the cap sooner rather than later. Not even keeping up with inflation while every other big league has been back on track for a while is ‘bad optics’. Not good for the league.
I've been saying for months the league is going to do a two year bump to spread this out. They aren't dragging this into a one year massive bump.

So the rangers who made the ECF shouldn't commit to winning right now? That is absolutely the most insane take ive heard on this board in a while, and that includes edjovo.

The Rangers have a young core, a fantastic goaltender. There is absolutely no reason not to go for it (without trading our A prospect).
Our expectation for last season was to make the first round.
We got out of the first round, and won the second.

The expectations this year should be 2-3 rounds minimum.

You don't lessen expectations from the past year just because you want to hedge your bet...

He also had his lowest PPG season as a ranger. And his lowest shooting percentage since he was on chicago.
And still somehow scored 96 points which lead the team. My point is, the guy is so good, even if he had a "down year" for himself, that's still better than anyone else on the team. He's clearly the best player on the team other than Shesterkin. If he was at his best in the playoffs I have no doubt we would have beat Tampa Bay.

Strome had more points than Trocheck. Which player would you rather have on the Rangers?

Points aren't everything.
I'd rather have neither. I'd rather have a cheaper, younger center with upside. A marginal upgrade to Strome wasn't worth the 7 year commitment, IMO. I hope he proves me wrong, I hope he scores 70+ points and has great years ahead.

Kakko played well with bread numerous times. This narrative that he 'never played well with bread and Strome' is bullshit. Also, Kakko was a bright spot in the playoffs and was a part of a few momentum shifts during this run. Gallant said he is basically handing Laf and Kak top 6 spots so what are you talking about ?

Krav has to work his way up from the ground up and yes, may land in a top 6 RW because one spot is open. Our best case scenario is Kak and Krav run with the two top 6RW spots and never look back.

I'm excited about this year, people tear down our top picks but i love our team makeup. Laf and Kakko are progressing slower than some had hoped but imo it's best for us long term and i do believe both of them are gonna be stars as long as they work on their deficiencies in the offseason, Laf (quicker decision making, most notably to start skating hard as soon as he gets the puck, quickness) and Kakko ( speed, quickness in general).

Isn't the #1 Center on the #1 line?
The concept of #1 is based on ice time.
You can roll out whatever line you want to first, it doesn’t really matter.
Mika and Panarin both play similar amounts while being on different lines.

Agree with this as well because I'd like to see how comfortable Laf can be on the right for an extended period of time.

Will say this again though, Laf looked best on the left in the playoffs 100%.

He looked fine offensively on the right side in the regular season.
He just needs more minutes. The playoffs he put up, he’s everything we want in a young player, he works hard, he’s got skills, he physically engages, and he’s got a little shit talking in him as well. He performs in the clutch! Kid needs top line minutes!
Shit I’d move Kreider and his 52 goals to the third if Laf can’t handle rw, at this point.

OoO you're going to get in trouble if you mention moving Kreider. And I sure do feel like this will be his last season. The future on the PP & line 1 is brighter than Kreids for 3 more years.

@Amazing Kreiderman Doesn't sound like the attitude of a guy who allegedly refused to report to Hartford. Just sayin...

One thing doesn't disprove the other.

Kravtsov is in camp and showing the right attitude, while 11 months ago he peaced out and presumably deleted Drury's phone number in his phone.

There is nothing what Steven reported that is proven false by Zac Jones trying and doing all the right things this pre-season. I understand if Jones was frustrated last year, and frankly in a certain lens, it's understandable.

If anything, one could also interpret Jones participating in the rookie camp (when it was optional for him) as Jones trying to rebuild some political capital. If he was confident how everything shook out last year, he would have no need to risk any injury participating in a rookie camp.
