That "what about (insert name here) next season?" concern is completely out the window at this point. There's really no comfortable scenario where the Rangers aren't worrying about something as it pertains to the cap next season, particularly if/when they buy out Shattenkirk.

Its a unique situation for a team thats supposed to be in a rebuild, but at least the available cap space was invested in close-to-sure-things like Panarin and Trouba rather than the signings we are accustomed to as Ranger fans.

Player X might have a good season and be in line for a big raise next season ya say? Great problem to have - will deal with it next year.

Does that contemplate who the dead cap space will affect the RFAs that will need to be signed over next several years? Or ZBad himself? I understand the short term fix, but has that examined all of the long term view?
I have. The next two years will be challenging but very manageable. The Rangers have plenty of contracts expiring in the next 2-3 years. They will have plenty of money to maneuver. They only have 7 players under contract for 2021-22 and I expect at least 5-6 more players that year will be on ELCs.

Cap Compliance is one year at a time.

True fan.
First, to write the letter and second, to worry about what Larry Brooks had to say to you.

That email could still be somewhere in your in box...
I've emailed Larry and responded to his tweets many times. He doesn't always respond but he has many times, usually short answers. I appreciate the effort on his part.

I get the impression some believed the buyout window was open much earlier?

I wonder if we can take anything from no one being lined up to be bought out immediately. Probably not

Ideally it would’ve been better to make trades before officially signing Trouba and Buchnevich. Once they were signed now other teams know the Rangers need to get under the cap. Rangers dealing now with no leverage so to even get a rid of a guy like Namestnikov or Strome they would need to include a draft pick as a sweetener. If they couldn’t trade Smith or Shattenkirk even with retained money then there is no chance that will happen now even with throwing in picks.

If a trade happens it’ll be something like:

Namestnikov
3rd or 4th

For

6th or 7th

Word is Columbus was the only other team that made an offer for Gusev. Imagine they wouldn’t offer 2 picks. Lousy return. I do wonder if namestnikov becomes an option for Columbus. They’ve struck out on a few options. Would they give up anything for him?

People need to stop saying this. Do you seriously think we could have tricked teams by making the trades first like they don’t know? We’ve known the situation since panarin signed it didn’t suddenly change. The other teams have access to cap friendly too

I emailed Andrew Gross a few years back asking him questions for a college project about his profession and he took the time to do it.

Shout out to a real one.
