Anyone writing DeAngelo off as a player to be traded in a year is reaching quite a bit because:
1. We don't know what Fox is at the NHL level
2. We don't know what Lundkvist is at the NHL level
3. We currently have no other RHD in the system that has more than 1 season of pro experience under their belt that could actually crack an NHL roster at some point.
Keane is a nice player, but has only been in junior hockey. Let's see him in the AHL this season. Fox has 0 pro games. Let's see if he sticks in the NHL fully this season.
With DeAngelo we know we're getting someone that can put up points at the NHL level, play fast, and move the puck. Is that what Fox can mold into? Of course, but he's still a rookie. While we do need to build for the future, DeAngelo can easily be part of that future.
I'd much rather be the Hurricanes, having 8 legit NHL defensemen on the team than worrying about trading DeAngelo before we even know remotely what we have with our 18-21 year old players.
