Anyone writing DeAngelo off as a player to be traded in a year is reaching quite a bit because:

1. We don't know what Fox is at the NHL level
2. We don't know what Lundkvist is at the NHL level
3. We currently have no other RHD in the system that has more than 1 season of pro experience under their belt that could actually crack an NHL roster at some point.

Keane is a nice player, but has only been in junior hockey. Let's see him in the AHL this season. Fox has 0 pro games. Let's see if he sticks in the NHL fully this season.

With DeAngelo we know we're getting someone that can put up points at the NHL level, play fast, and move the puck. Is that what Fox can mold into? Of course, but he's still a rookie. While we do need to build for the future, DeAngelo can easily be part of that future.

I'd much rather be the Hurricanes, having 8 legit NHL defensemen on the team than worrying about trading DeAngelo before we even know remotely what we have with our 18-21 year old players.

How many RD do we need?

We have Trouba, ADA, and Fox. It would make no sense to sign another to a long term contract.

Good NHL RHD are about as common as good MLB starting pitching. They are as close to unicorns as any position in any sport. When you get one, you usually keep them. And when you do trade them, you get a nice return.

Look at our RHD last season: Pionk, DeAngelo, Shattenkirk, and McQuaid. Adam Mcquaid was traded for picks after we traded picks for him. Adam McQuaid was in demand last season, not by one team, two teams. Pionk was half of a transaction to land Trouba. Everyone and their mother wanted Pionk gone. Shattenkirk was scooped IMMEDIATELY after being bought out, by the team with the best record in the NHL.

DeAngelo is worth having here and keeping, signing to a nice contract, because someone will give a nice return for a puck moving RHD that is under contract. If not, you keep him and use him because he's a top 4 defender.

So let’s suppose there are legs to the rumor that Edmonton wants Kreider. The presumed deal would likely involve something like Kreider for Gagner firstly to match the salaries (somewhat) so that Kreider fits in regarding the cap. But what would/could Edmonton have to add to make this come to fruition? Hypothetically - of course

Sorry....was never a fan and would not want him near any prospect...just a personal opinion.
I mean he would be teaching great off ice lessons like how to box a trifecta, when to double down vs. split...

Tony isn’t long for this organization. The Rangers just need him to sign the one year contract and hope he picks up from where he left off last season. He plays well. The Rangers say nice things about him. Tony has really matured off the ice. Tony is great. Tony is our best D. Even if it’s not true, just keep saying it and some people will buy it.

The Rangers have Fox. The Rangers have Lundkvist. The Rangers gave Trouba $56 million.

Trade him for a nice return. Build up his value. Bought low. Sell high. Let another team worry about the long term contract. Good luck to them.
I think Nils is going to be a very good player.
Just seen small clips of him but everyone I’ve read seems to be very positive. We’ll see.

I’d try for their #1 pick and scoreboard watch all season

Great post

We have no idea how quickly these kids will develop if they develop at all. DeAngelo took years to look better so odds are many of these kids won’t be great out of the gate.

As far as the Canes, yeah, what a defense!!!

I'll mark deAngelo as another player you hate and you'll be rooting against.

I've learned what tics RB off. Its when a player puts our GM in a tough situation. It was the same with Zucc. It was the same with Stralman. :)

No chance they'd give us an unprotected 1st. I doubt they'd give us a 1st at all for Kreider, since I highly doubt Kreider would re-sign there.

Kreider have to be traded. Tony should be asking for 3M.

Sharks.
They've got around $2.5-3m in space right now, they're looking to be a contender, they could use some support on the wings and they could look to extend him as they've got a heap of UFAs after this season if they want to rejig their team a bit

This is information on Kravtsov and his family.

The extended time in New York presumably would give Kravtsov time to truly consider whether he wants to go back to his team in Russia, Traktor Chelyabinsk, and play the final year of his KHL contract, or buy out that last year and stay in North America and come to training camp with the Rangers this September. All Russian players have the right to buy out their contracts at any time (the player has to pay for the buyout himself) and Kravtsov’s family apparently has the means to do that.

Rangers No. 1 pick faces decision on staying or going

Well, then good luck to that disgrace of a front office. Let them move on with missing the playoffs 12 out of the last 13 years staring them in the face.

If SJ is involved for Kreider I'd be asking for either Chekhovich (preferable LW) or Chmelevski along with a 2020 2nd. 1st if Kreider is extended.

I just believe the organization is bigger than the player. The players come and go but the team stays here.

I want to see ADA sign and show up and kill it and prove to the team he’s worth a nice contract extension, but I’m not taking it personally like you seem to be doing.

Seems like this is a route a lot of players are taking, and not just in Hockey. I’m not a fan of the trend but this is becoming routine.

Don’t be surprised if contract negotiations with our young guns mimick what Toronto has dealt with these past two seasons.

ADA knows we have to move a contract to give him the money he seems to be asking for. These guys aren’t stupid.

When he accepts the fact that it’s not going to happen I think he’ll sign. He’s only going to hurt himself if this continues.

They won't trade them- I would love to have Chmelevski. Great prospect. Smart offensive player, crafty shot.

He's going to score 20 in the NHL, and a two way presence.
