I think DeAngelo has a real legit argument to be paid more than his qualifying offer but an argument doesn't equal leverage in this situation and as I mentioned elsewhere, him holding out is only going to give Fox an opportunity to take his spot/minutes in the lineup.
DeAngelo is in a tough spot with no real way to get out of it except to take what the Rangers offer

It’s GOOD news he’s there skating with his teammates. Said it yesterday but if they aren’t there they’re already behind their teammates

I love how people always blame the players for signing these contracts. If anyone offers me 6.5m a year I'd sign it, even if I am fully aware I am unable to do what they expect of me

Turning down a job or project because you don't have the time/manpower/resources/experience to complete it is pretty common in the real world but its ludicrous to expect athletes to do it.

I might turn down 6.5m to perform heart surgery on someone but I would sign a 6.5m contract with the Rangers in a heartbeat even knowing I would barely be able to skate my fat ass around the rink.

What some people expect to happen is this scenario:

Player: "I think I will either retire or play a smaller role on the next team. I don't think I can reach the same level as previous years"
GM: "Here's 40 million over the next 6 years"
Player: "No, that's too much! Give me 10"

Sorry for the confusion folks -- I was speaking sarcastically.

You got to remember that some of these are the same people who seem to think that Staal and Henke should march into Gorton's office and either tell him that they waive their NTCs and demand that he trades them. And if unable to be traded, then they will retire.

Can’t believe it’s been 7 years since the last time Haley was around these parts.

Time flies.

An enforcer right on schedule to protect the kids
(and it’s not a surprise despite not being 1979. Muchos)

Did he say it would rain this spring??
Yeah, saying that Panarin would go to the Rangers wouldn't take much skill. He did say that Panarin made the decision to sign with the Rangers moments before Dreger (and then everyone else in the mainstream) reported it. I'm not a fan of his work, but clearly there was something there.

It really wasn't that much of a leap -- people started saying he was coming here the minute the contract situation arose.
