For what it’s worth, the team leaders in even strength H+M danger SCs are Kakko, Laf (who don’t even shoot that much) and Trocheck. It’s not even close after that group. Panarin not even in the top 6.

Also, fun fact. Rangers are either 1st or 2nd in the league with posts hit. Trocheck, Laf and Kakko also among leaders there.

I was pretty disgusted with Panarin's playoff performance, but willing to give him a second go at it before sharpening my pitchfork. I'm standing by that, but if they don't even get another go at it this season that's even worse.

I haven't really loved his linemates at all this season either so theres also that, but for his pricetag you'd hope he can drive a line himself. Not really his fault he's overpaid though.

Dolan is 12 months removed from firing the last guys for taking too long, he’s not signing on for another rebuild. The Rangers are more likely to trade Kakko, Chytil, and Kravtsov (Laf stays because he’s North American and marketable).

The facts are unrelated because Hughes was never available, but the fact that Hughes has 34 goals and 78 points in his last 70 games and Kakko has 30 goals and 66 points total in 169 games definitely chaps my ass a good amount.

Mercer, Hischier, Zetterlund, Sharagovich, Bratt… f*** off.
It's such typical Rangers luck that we had never picked 1st or 2nd before in the modern draft and we win lotteries back to back to get 1st and 2nd overall picks and the players we take are consensus picks there and both are underwhelming. And to boot, one of our biggest rivals won the lottery in there as well and got the best player in either draft. Because of course it turned out that way.

And any talk of a rebuild is a waste of time. We had our rebuild. Our owner swallowed it and ate a bad team for a few years and we made the ECF last season. They're NOT going to rebuild again. Maybe some deals to be made to help the team now but they're not going to rebuild again.

With the salary cap what it is and looking around the league, there's not much to be done. The answers are going to have to come from inside the room, unfortunately.

I don't get to watch many games due to timezone constraints but every game I see, Kakko looks the far superior player to Laf. Sure, he's snakebitten to hell/a bad finisher, but he's got more to his game. I'd sooner trade Lafreniere than Kakko, personally.

The talent of this group is not in question, imo (I know the roster have holes here and there but which group doesn't). The issues lie elsewhere, such as systems, coaching and management approach.

Making Trouba captain has been a disaster so far. It has overworked his poor brain cell and Zib, Kreider and Panarin are even more checked out into their own worlds than before.

Gallant needs to force feed the kids more ice time and spread them out in the lineup. They are regularly the only bright spot despite lacking points. This team is a mess right now but has all the pieces to right this ship. I think a regression was expected. We are all understandably frustrated with the effort but I’m more frustrated with the lineup decisions than anything else. The team has consistently played at a high level but just can’t seem to put together a full 60 minutes. The coach can’t manage his way through the mud. I also know it’s easy to blame the coach and cliche. But I just don’t like his decisions. Put Kravtsov back in and play the kid. Give Kakko first line minutes And play Chytil more at ES. Laffy is just lost right now but still has 10 ES points, if he finds his game he can easily hit 40 points

The first 40 minutes went off like a charm, the Blueshirts building a 3-0 edge on three goals scored at five-on-five while denying Edmonton’s dynamic Connor McDavid-Leon Draisaitl first-line connection so much as a sniff. The Oilers, 3-7 in their last 10 and coming off losses at the Devils and Islanders earlier in the week, had been shut out for five straight periods.

Two points were there for the taking, but the Rangers flushed them. They have lost two straight in regulation, the first at Anaheim on Wednesday to a terrible Ducks team that had won all year in 60 minutes. That is how you throw away a season.

Larry didn't mention the trade deadline, accrued cap space and Kane. Might be a first time for this season.

Trade them for what?

Ryan Lindgren is hurt again. Cap issue or no cap issue. if the Rangers have a lost season, Lindgren could bring back good value at the trade deadline. Teams are always looking for defensemen at the trade deadline. The guy is always hurt.

The Rangers f***ed up their rebuild with the Trouba and Panarin deals. The team was one year out a rebuild and they jumped back into the pool. Then they decided to double down and sign Kreider for seven years.

People talk about last season. Let us speak the truth. No bullshit. The Rangers needed seven games to beat Pittsburgh and Caroline who were playing with their back-up goalies and the Rangers had Shesterkin. Crosby doesn't get hurt in game five and the Rangers were going out in five games. Jarry played in game seven on one leg and the Rangers needed OT to win the series.

I hope the Rangers have a shitty season. It will be a reality check for everyone in the organization.

This would be the one instance of the Rangers selling high, which they’re incapable of doing, so it won’t happen 😂

People don't wanna hear this but it's true

Sadly I think there are so many issues that it's honestly overwhelming... somewhat of a moving target also.

The REAL problem is there are no avenues to solutions.

Up against the cap, locked into NTC or NMV on way too many players and kids that IF they were moved, would be sold for pennies on the dollar.

Drury has a REAL tough road ahead... it may take a crash and burn season just to be able to STOP the hemorrhaging

The Rangers are playing as if they feel they are owed wins. It's almost an arrogance.

Honestly, maybe they need to fall on their asses and miss the dance to really learn something. The '93-94 team didn't make the playoffs the year before moving on to finer things.

With the back to back coming up against the Sens...mix the lines up and put Panarin-Zibs-Kravs on the third line ....see how they enjoy that for a couple of games . Run out Laf-Tro-Gaut and CK-Chy-KK as your top 2 lines for these games . See what happens but at least change things up as what we are doing is not working and some of these guys need to leave their comfort zone . I think it is worth a try and Ottawa might be a good club to try it against .

If this trend of play and results continues into December, I think Gallant's job is on the line. I get that last season was a bit of a fluke with some luck mixed in but I don't see Dolan being ok with the ECF then potentially not making the playoffs.

Lindgren probably could return a first plus something else leading up to the trade deadline. Got to keep that Rick Nash trade tree going. Blais, Carpenter and Vesey could return some mid round picks as well. Maybe some team will be stupid enough to trade a 2nd for Kravstov.

Unless there is a hockey trade out there, Rangers should not be adding if this play continues.

Then in the offseason see what can be done with Kreider. I would have added Trouba to that group but making him captain kind of shoots themselves in the foot.

Someone said hiring Trotz would make Panarin a 60pt player. He's trending down and current is pacing for 80pts. With that contract, Rangers are stuck with him. Contract is buyout proof and no one in the league can absorb his full cap hit, at least teams he might accept a trade to. His pay is all bonus and just $1MM in actual salary. 3 more seasons after this one.

You want players like Lindgren in your lockerroom as examples of commitment and sacrifice.

But I agree with the above. Our performance last postseason wasn’t worth the price for our deadline additions.

You know, while we're at, let's talk about the gorilla in the room.

The kids have been together on a line for a few games now and, presumably, are matching up against the other team's "3rd" line and really aren't dominating/scoring. If they're as talented as we'd hoped they'd be, they should be. Maybe we need to face the facts that either 1.) they're going to be just decent hockey players and not superstars or 2.) will eventually realize further potential and figure it out.

I mean, it's been 6 years for Chytil. It took Buchnevich 5.

Pathetic is the definition of this group right now. I like Gallant. But when the coach doesn’t have answers during times like these, its time for a change. This team is lifeless on the operating table, they need something to bring it back to life. A coaching change seems like the most logical immediate move.

Management created this "real problem" in the first place with a string of sloppy decisions.

I think the quickest avenue is trading Panarin. This team needs depth and speed and will need cap for that. A $12mm playmaking W is a luxury we simply can’t afford.

His cap hit isn’t as much an issue given there’s 3 yrs left (not 5-6) and the cap is finally going up. I’m sure they could make that work. Burns was just traded and he’s much older and years removed from being elite.

The issue is Bread’s NMC, so he needs to want out. Cut his minutes, he’s not the LT solution. Let’s see what the kids have here. It either wakes him up or he wants out. Win win to me.

Othmann, Sykora and Berard are full of much needed piss and vinegar. Laffy can play with an edge too. If the current leaders in the room are gonna be passive (which of course they will be), they need a reality check or be shown the door before it wears off on them.

Kreider, Mika and Panarin helped drag this team into the playoffs. I understand feeding them the top minutes and giving them seniority over the rest of the squad, but if they don't get it done this season and they wanna stay they should be moved down the lineup and susceptible to moving off PP1. They need to be treated the same as everyone else on the team, same as the kids. How often does anyone on PP1 work hard enough to draw a penalty? Yet they get to reap the benefit of basically the entirety of it? And bolster their personal stats on other peoples hard work? It's a really bad look and sends a bad message.

Enough of the preferential treatment. It's killing the team culture.

Agreed the talent is there, but I don’t know if this particular mix of talent and mental fortitude is the right cocktail. We definitely need more speed, and I don’t just mean more Veseys or Mottes, but real top 6 players with serious wheels.

I think Laf and Kakko have a lot of talent and will get there. Fox is already there, but we need to start supplementing the roster with something none of them have, which is speed. Panarin isn’t fast. Kreider doesn’t have the motor. It’s weird that we get two lottery picks and they’re Ws that aren’t fast, but it is what it is. Let’s just accept it and start changing the mix.
