They need to be treated the same as everyone else on the team, same as the kids. How often does anyone on PP1 work hard enough to draw a penalty? Yet they get to reap the benefit of basically the entirety of it? And bolster their personal stats on other peoples hard work? It's a really bad look and sends a bad message.

Enough of the preferential treatment. It's killing the team culture.
Great point. That’s something that might work if the PP is killing it, but once it goes dark, I can def see that becoming a big issue. Also compound that with the fact it’s the kids who are the only ones generating any consistent offense.

Agreed the talent is there, but I don’t know if this particular mix of talent and mental fortitude is the right cocktail. We definitely need more speed, and I don’t just mean more Veseys or Mottes, but real top 6 players with serious wheels.

I think Laf and Kakko have a lot of talent and will get there. Fox is already there, but we need to start supplementing the roster with something none of them have, which is speed. Panarin isn’t fast. Kreider doesn’t have the motor. It’s weird that we get two lottery picks and they’re Ws that aren’t fast, but it is what it is. Let’s just accept it and start changing the mix.
I mean top 6 players with wheels arent cheap. We also dont really have a top of cap flexibility.

Mike Keenan move.....give the big boys a 5 minute shift . That will provoke some kind of a reaction for sure and it will be talked about .

He only did that because Kovalev notoriously took extended shifts.

He should plant their asses on the bench for period or two.

THAT would have more of an impact. Fans, media, Drury would all take note

I said it in the offseason, there’s a reason this team excelled when they added guys like Motte and Vatrano. They aren’t prototypical top guys but their effort levels are infectious and they pressured the puck constantly. It’s something this team lacks and has lacked for a while. In all honesty, this is something most young, skilled teams lack. Teams coming out of a rebuild generally see their skill guys up first and need to add around the edges. The issue being, Goodrow and a one-legged Blais aren’t enough. Gauthier is developing into a player who can help here and Vesey, when playing properly, should be this type of guy. It’s just not consistent enough.

Also, Trochek is a guy who helps fill this void too. The issue is that the top guys aren’t pulling in that same direction enough. Too many fly by’s or just not engaging from Kreider, Zibanejad and Panarin. These guys have the tools to take over games physically, they just are choosing not do it and waiting for a power play created by others effort levels.

Trochek is part of the problem, he isn't providing what Strome did. It basically gutted our 2nd line and now we have to play panarin with zib. The whole anyone can put up 70 points with Panarin got blown to bits with this move.

Strome has 11 points in 21 games playing with Anaheim. I doubt he got any more disciplined in defensive coverage, board battles and taking offensive zone penalties.

I think this group of core players have realized they need Bedard next season to truly be a contender and they are tanking their way there no matter the cost.

Trouba and Miller being awful is the major problem this season. Jones not being able to do much on the third pairing has left us with one NHL d pairing this season and Lindgren can't stay healthy so we have no NHL d pairings. We just have Fox. Every team is so tight on the cap that we can't make a real move so we're essentially screwed this season. The best Drury is hoping for is that this team can stay in the race till deadline time where finally there is some cap space to work with to fix the defense. I think this is going to be a throwaway season and hopefully the NHL realizes teams need more cap space next season.

Trocheck a healthy scratch...for Carpenter? Wtf?

I hope this is a maintenance day thing b/c otherwise yikes

I’ll keep harping on this but making the decision to sign Motte and someone like Evan Rodriguez this offseason would have gone a long way to improve team speed and make the team more tenacious on the puck. They could have been fit under the cap with no Reaves or Carpenter…
