Strome has 11 points in 21 games playing with Anaheim. I doubt he got any more disciplined in defensive coverage, board battles and taking offensive zone penalties.
And all that changed with trochek?? Trochek is doing the exact same game only he can't play with Panarin. Open your eyes, Trochek hasnt been good on either side of the puck.

Panarin was fine with Strome, now we have a 1 line team.

Panarin wasn't fine with Strome in the playoffs and hasn't been fine since. He's forcing passes, making bad decisions, and refusing to shoot.

Trocheck has been better than Strome in every facet of the game. The "chemistry" might not be there as well as it was with Panarin, but that's on the bread man. He's the elite 11M+ forward.

I’ll keep harping on this but making the decision to sign Motte and someone like Evan Rodriguez this offseason would have gone a long way to improve team speed and make the team more tenacious on the puck. They could have been fit under the cap with no Reaves or Carpenter…
Our bottom 6 isnt the issue.

Strome was hurt ffs and no Trochek hasnt been better in any facet of the game, people talk about Troubas contract, this one is gonna stink real bad. All the stuff people picked at Strome about is still happening with Trochek.

The inmates running the asylum has to stop.

Panarin has lost the right to choose his line mates. Trocheck is a really good player. If he can’t make it work with him that’s an indictment on Panarin.

Doesn’t like playing with Kakko because he’s puck dominant? Tough shit. You’ve produced with him the past, do it again.

Panarin with Strome literally sum up in a nutshell everything that is wrong with the current mindset of this team. Strome's post game interview two seasons ago when he talked about the coaches needing to trust the players more is the attitude that permeates this group & tells you all you need to know about how willing they are to playing within a system. The only system this team cares about is making pretty plays that result in highlight reel goals. As long as they can produce a goal like that every third game, in their minds' the coach is too rigid & there's no reason to change what they're doing.

Even with Quinn gone, & now Strome gone, the mindset pervades & it's infected every member of the locker room. Guys like Trocheck who are used to playing hard under Brind'Amour still show flashes of forechecking hard & outworking opponents, but just give it some time & he'll fall right in line & collect his paycheck without breaking a sweat. That's the NYR way.

You think this attitude started with Quinn, Strome??? Are you forgetting the Vigneault years? The last year of tortorella?

Just saw a video on twitter of Trouba getting the stick flung out of his hand by Draisatl on his way to the bench after scoring the 4th goal. I guess all the BS about being proud to be the Rangers captain was a lie. Gutless team with gutless leaders

I'm not exactly happy about Kravtsov sitting but all in all does anyone think the build of this team with Vesey and Goodrow in the top 6 is a cup team??? Coach might be an issue but we aren't built like a cup team and for that Drury has to fall on the sword or fix it.

Torts teams were many things, but one thing they didn't do was thumb their nose at the coach. They all played within the system. Granted the message wore thin & the players began tuning him out, but they all rowed in one direction while Torts was still here.

If you wanna argue the attitude started with AV, I won't argue, but that Strome interview was extremely telling about what the coach is trying to instill & their attitude towards it. Not enough attention was paid to that particular soundbite, but it's exactly what most of us are seeing in this team.

They did for sure....Gaborik as an example, Del Zotto etc. Torts team was mainly comprised of north south players, when that started changing it went south for him too otherwise he would never have left. The last 3 coaches have been preaching north south hockey, we have a bunch of east west players, maybe the coaches need to adjust to the team instead of the team adjusting to the coach.

I think this team has the ability on paper to be a cup contender. Vesey and Goodrow play in the top 9 as complementary defensive forwards.

It's interspersing guys like Vesey with skill players that in theory allows us to roll 3 scoring lines.

Team doesn't have the depth of the 2012-2015 rosters, but an elite power play can help cover some of that.

I think it's more likely they look at 2-3 role players like Vatrano, Motte, Braun at the deadline again. Not those guys, but similar depth.

If you can end up with

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Lafreniere
Erne(trade)-Trocheck-Donskoi(Trade)
Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier
Vesey

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Kulikov(Trade)-Schneider
Jones

The key will be to keep the costs of those players low.

Fine if you need to split hairs, but you're deflecting away from the current issues, however.

My point is more about the current attitude that's infected this particular group & unfortunately it took a giant nosedive when Strome & Panarin dictated to multiple coaches with their lack of structure that the message was being received, but they just didn't care to adhere to it. Strome was just part of the problem, Panarin appears to be at the root of it.
