Gallant finally did what I wanted...mostly.

Use the Kid Line exactly how Torts used the Pack line as a second line during even strength. Trochek leads a checking line in the Holik style. Have him against McDavid all game.

I think the Kravstov thing is a little silly at this point, but it's totally all about sending a message/"paying dues" because unfortunately he's now perceived as soft. I don't agree with it but this game predates us all by nearly a century and customs/codes.

Deadline space should not be used for Kane but rather for analytics players like Vatrano bang for buck who will compliment the current roster.

I'm not worried about the Rangers longterm, every team has one of those "tweener years" where they look stale in between an influx of the next wave due to cap limits. See 2009-10 and 2012-13 as examples. Washington won a Cup during won of those years because Smith-Pelley, Eller, and Connolly all hit the clutch lottery at the same time.

We can romanticize it now. At the time we were frustrated and complaining. No one could complete a pass. Only Gaborik could shoot. Frolov had one move. Gomez sucked. We'd struggle with basic hockey plays. It was often painful to watch. We got by on grit, tight D, and a Hall-of-Fame goaltender.

The current team can be even more successful and also far more enjoyable to watch. They're still finding it. I agree that it'd be a lot easier to find that consistency if we could somehow add a prime-Callahan type.

Isn't Garland rumored to be on the block? And we have a need at RW.

He's really not overpaid at all. He's a utility guy that you can put anywhere when anyone gets hurt. Had a career year last year (33 points) playing everywhere and he's on pace to do even better than that. The narrative that 3.6M is overpaying this guy just doesn't hold water - and I'm not even factoring in leadership, clutchness in playoffs, and a Cup winning vet in the room.
He got a majority of those points on the line w Panarin. At 4c he’s overpaid. I like what he brings and he was great in the playoffs. But the term is too long

If there's any silver lining to this season so far it's that there's a real opportunity to lock up one of our young guys for tremendous value before they really break out. MacKinnon signed his bargain contract when he was a 50/60 point player. Don't forget it took him until his 5th NHL season to become a legitimate star. He's probably been the best value contract for half a decade since becoming a top 10 player in the league in 2017-2018. We need to have contracts like that, hopefully we get a big jump in cap space this off-season.
Kudos to you for even entertaining the thought that KK or Laff could/would become ANYTHING CLOSE to MacK

Your optimism is refreshing... especially to me

Its a general question for a reason. Do Goodrow's purported abilities outweigh the effect his contract has on the rest of our roster? I don't think they do.

I think he's worth his contract. There are certainly worse contracts on the team and, like I said, the ability of him to play up and down the lineup and be productive doing it is invaluable.

I shouldnt bother replying to a post like this but congrats to you for misconstruing the incredibly obvious point being made that we should lock up young talent before they cost a fortune. It was pretty straightforward. Nothing suggested this player = this player. It would be ideal to lock in guys like Chytil, K'Andre, Laf and Kakko before they command big money, a pretty simple point, so kudos to you.

I made the same point about Igor in the past because the potential was evident and got a similar reaction... "he's no Quick or Price".. nothing further needs to be said about how that looks now.

Garland as a deadline acquisition is not bad. That AAV for next season puts the Rangers right back in a cap problem.

Goodrow would need to go the other way.

That would be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Need to add to Goody, etc...

Not well thought out. My bad.

One of them could have literally become Jack Eichel. Like…the literal Jack Eichel.

Well...what can we get for Lindgren when he gets back from his latest head bump ? I think the time has arrived where we find a young guy that will be ready in about a year or so for him . Some club deemed to have a good playoff run ahead might like a guy like him and not realize how damaged he might be , He looks more brittle than he ever was . There is NO way he lasts with his playing style and hopefully Schneider can assume his role . I think it would be best for the team in the long run to move him . Rangers will have to figure that out quickly before he gets a real serious bump on the noggin . It is not something I like thinking about...but let's be honest.....

I find myself more in the fingerpointing at Panarin camp. He’s not the only issue, but we just have too many issues to address to afford a $12mm PP specialist.

It’s easy to bash the kids, but that line is the only unit to possess the puck w/ any consistency at ES. If we can find a way to free up $12mm to support these kids along w/ the prime minutes to support them, then I think that’s a step in the right direction.

How exactly we do it is very difficult. Maybe limiting Panarin’s minutes until he asks out?

Idk about that. They regularly get high danger chances despite heavy minutes playing with the bottom D pair, but just have issues finishing. That’s much better than our “top 6” who don’t do much of anything unless Fox is on the ice.

And that doesn’t even account for the idea that the kid’s can still show progression while the vets will likely regress.

Mike Keenan move.....give the big boys a 5 minute shift . That will provoke some kind of a reaction for sure and it will be talked about .
