Subban is such a selfish PoS.

Dude was toast. He knew he was toast. Still, he hit the ice to steal that last year of salary and in the meanwhile used slewfooting as a defensive tool on the regular to cover up his lack of effective skating.

So many players up and down the conference got dumped by a has-been last year. Blais was unfortunate enough to have what looks like career altering issues from it. Lest we forget his first victim, Revo.

So he should have just given up the 8M that someone voluntarily offered him?

Serious question. Who on this team looks sharp, skill wise?

Is this not a problem?

And yes, it's a huge problem. Last year they talked all about clearly defined roles for every player/position. That whole plot is lost, either because players do what they want or cannot play to their designated roles. The problem is that this roster was built on that philosophy with little wiggle room, and now it's locked in but the carriage has turned back into a pumpkin.

Many players exit gracefully. Many don't.

Not many intentionally injure anyone who gets in their path to cover up the fact that they arent capable of playing NHL hockey 82 nights a season.
He only did it like once or twice or five times…Whoops…It only cost Blais a couple mill…Good guy off the ice…

I think giving Panarin-Zib-Kreids an extended look is a good idea.
The Kid Line is line 2 even if Brooks listed it different.
If Panarin can click with 93&20, this actually has potential as a very good top 6.
Vesey-Troch-Goodrow has makings of a solid, reliable shutdown line.
Blais-Carp-Gauthier is fine I suppose.
Theres just no fit for Vitali in this lineup. We have defined top 6 he cannot crack, and his style doesn't fit shutdown defensive 3rd line, and his fragile state is DEFINITELY not suited for our bang and crash 4th line.

I could see Krav getting in if Gallant would bite bullet and go
13-93-24
10-72-74
20-16-12
91-21-26
22

Wouldn't mind seeing this if current combos dont work. But I think the current setup has potential, just have to give it a run.

Igor didn't find form until recently, and Halak basically lost us Anaheim (with 1 horrible goal and 1 very stoppable puck) and hasn't been good. We've lost points so far due to goaltending, which was very unexpected. Halak just needs that first win under his belt, and Igor needs to do his thing now that hes back as we knew him, and the goaltending won't be a worry.

We take more shots, give up less, have better underlying metrics, but our SH% has tanked. Last year was opposite. Big picture, now that Igor is back, our SH% is bound to rise to atleast average if not (likely will be) better. We're too quick to panic on here. Things will be fine.

We now have enough cap space accrual potential by deadline to either go after Kane, or do an addition by comitee like last seasons pickups. We will be alright folks. Stay calm

Goodrow down to the 4th for Blais. Kravtsov on the 3rd. Shuffle Goodrow up in Kravtsov’s place in defensive situations. Very simple stuff.

I wish we had Callahan type physical. Not a goon like Reaves. I miss those Torts hard working teams. Rangers need to get back to that hard working blue collar mentality. A team that relies on their skill and that has too much finesse goes nowhere in the playoffs
We can romanticize it now. At the time we were frustrated and complaining. No one could complete a pass. Only Gaborik could shoot. Frolov had one move. Gomez sucked. We'd struggle with basic hockey plays. It was often painful to watch. We got by on grit, tight D, and a Hall-of-Fame goaltender.

The current team can be even more successful and also far more enjoyable to watch. They're still finding it. I agree that it'd be a lot easier to find that consistency if we could somehow add a prime-Callahan type.

Are the Rangers making the playoffs? The Rangers were 9th in win % on Thanksgiving morning. A team needs 25-30 points with their back up goaltender starting games. The Rangers have 1 point with Halak starting. The Ducks have one regulation win. The Rangers. Ottawa beat Anaheim yesterday. Ottawa is terrible. Drury gave Halak a NMC. The Rangers are stuck with him.

The solution seems obvious. Take Carpenter out of the lineup. Put Goodrow at 4C where he fits best. Now there’s a third line spot open for Kravtsov.

Very on brand for this organization to prioritize the forward version of Tinordi (Carpenter) over the development of a first rounder.

Jeff was taller. Surprisingly Big dude.

There are people who like it. Grew up on it. Played it. You don't like it. That's fine. Some do. You hoping that they don't will not happen. Difference of opinion. That's ok.
There are other sports devoted to two men beating the shit out of each other. The organized fights between heavyweights is dumb. They don’t deter anything. A random scrap between two pissed off guys can be entertaining.

I’m with you all the way but it’s tough to argue that Kravtsov has done literally anything to earn a lineup spot besides being a high draft pick.

He’s been useless.

The NHL isn't a developmental league. If Kravtsov wanted to "develop" he would've reported to the AHL oh so long ago for a conditioning stint. He could've spent significant time adapting so smaller ice, tighter checking and perhaps gained some confidence along the way since people seem to think he's that talented.

I'm not saying that Carpenter is some valuable piece or something, but Kravtsov hasn't shown a whole lot to supplant anyone in a lineup that's got some really good numbers other than end results.

I expect Kravstov to play today if for no other reason than Drury telling Gallant he needs to play

But again, this team wastes another top 10 pick. In retrospect Drury should have just moved him for the 2nd/3rd round pick that was on the table this summer.

Was obvious Gallant was going to stick with his “guys” over this kid who he probably doesn’t like at all because of what happened last year.

At some point it comes down to that. They have to know what they have in this guy. I know Carpenter is a average to below average 4th line bum. He’ll continue to be that. Blais ain’t gonna be here next year and stinks, I don’t need to see more of him.

Drury made this bed but it’s absurd they’re not even giving him a shot to see. And Gallant is compounding this issue by playing not one, but two 4th liners in the top 6

Move Goodrow any Hajek for anything at all. Waive Carpenter. Find an affordable but serviceable 4C and third-paining D. Start there.

If there's any silver lining to this season so far it's that there's a real opportunity to lock up one of our young guys for tremendous value before they really break out. MacKinnon signed his bargain contract when he was a 50/60 point player. Don't forget it took him until his 5th NHL season to become a legitimate star. He's probably been the best value contract for half a decade since becoming a top 10 player in the league in 2017-2018. We need to have contracts like that, hopefully we get a big jump in cap space this off-season.

That third line has to be something more like:

Trochek with Kravtsov[but he sucks] (or Otthman) and Blais. We can’t pay Troch that money to saddle him with Vesey and Goodrow. It makes no sense. If Fil is going to take a step and the kids are going to produce enough to make that a solid top six, that’s great, but then the third line needs to still have viable scoring threats.

In fact, you’d almost be better off putting Vesey/Blais with Chytil and one of Laf/KK and spreading skill a bit. I can’t stomach Trochek as a 7M shutdown third liner who gets PP time.

The kid line will never be the second line. Nothing to worry about there.

not sure why goodrow isnt a servicable 4th line center?
He's absolutely overpaid and far too much term, but he's a very good 4th line center.

He's really not overpaid at all. He's a utility guy that you can put anywhere when anyone gets hurt. Had a career year last year (33 points) playing everywhere and he's on pace to do even better than that. The narrative that 3.6M is overpaying this guy just doesn't hold water - and I'm not even factoring in leadership, clutchness in playoffs, and a Cup winning vet in the room.

What is any of that doing for us?
