I mean just 4 years ago miller was drafted 22nd overall

I just don’t see how you discount potential top line players not being available? Yeah we could miss or you draft Braden point…
I'm not discounting. But the odds are against it, and also history tells us that at least one is likely moved.
I have no issue with them holding on to both, I just don't expect them to if there's a deal around that they like

They can make it work for this year.

Beyond this year they can't.

Ah, as a pure rental? Hard pass. He's not going to be cheap and we can't re-sign him.

Frank Seravalli. That's why we are talking about him at the moment because he mentioned on his show today the Rangers have him high on their list of trade targets.

Yeah, saw that - I was under the impression he had another year left on his contract. My bad.

There is a potential, we trade for him, and then pull off a sign and trade move after he ups his value in the playoffs.
We give up a first, get back a first and a 2nd.

4 years ago the Rangers were happy to accumulate picks. Much has changed since.

He has a year of RFA left after this one but his qualifier is like 10 mil.

Its one of those situations where they can trade for him and then trade him again to basically re stock most of what they give up, but yeah theres almost no way they can re-sign him.

I'm not against using the picks and I love Meier but it'd be hard for me to trade for him and then either let him walk or trade him again. I'd want him extended and thats going to be damn near impossible to do with out moving a ton of cap/Panarin deciding he doesn't want to play anymore.

I dont get why this is so difficult for some to understand. The Rangers are a Cup Contender who made a deep run last year with multiple first round picks in an allegedly deep draft. Do the math. No one should be surprised if one of them gets moved.

Because they barely skimped by 2 teams playing their 3rd string goalies and while it was a good run, it's not like they are some top-of-the-league powerhouse where this is the only year they should be looking at. Trading 1st's is a recipe for a short window.

I don't know what Meier would actually cost - we spent a lot on Copp, mostly because we hit the conditional, Meier's a better player. If the cost is somewhere in the neighborhood of the Copp/Kevin Hayes trades I'm fine with it. This would just be a rental, they have no cap space and no flexibility without a huge trade (that by definition would be top veteran player for futures).

Only way I think you can add an extra veteran player is if Patrick Kane wants to sign a bullshit David Krejci contract to play in New York with his buddy

The Panarin hate is absolutely bonkers. Has he played his best hockey? No. He has more to give. More responsible play. He has been frustrating at times with the forced cross ice passes and he certainly doesn’t seem to match well with Trocheck. But damn, even with him missing the net more and his accuracy down he is STILL producing at a PPG pace. And when he turns it on he makes the impact. He was the catalyst to the game winning OT goal against Dallas by physically outworking the opposition to win the puck. Then last night he was battling Gaudreau hard in the final minute along the boards near the blueline. The ability is still there and we need more consistency, but this not a guy who is completely failing us to the point where he is now nowhere near his salary worth as many here are suggesting. He is not far off. Besides Trocheck who plays a different style, who has been is opposite winger this year? Its been a bit of a revolving door. I like Kravtsov but he is still young. Last night you saw Vesey there. Panarin is a playmaker and you need a guy who can play a similar possession driven style with the ability to finish. You guys dont want to hear it but that could very well be Patrick Kane.
I was with you…until the last sentence ;)

Said it all season and no reason to change my mind now, more likely the NYR have zero 1sts than two on draft day.

Is it the right move? IMO, no, absolutely no chance this veteran group is bringing a Cup to NYR.

But I fully expect they will be trading futures for rentals this TDL. Only question is to what degree.
I disagree. I think our lack of cap space (both this year and next year) will limit us to smaller trades.

I hope you're right, and I know you are a cap expert, but aren't they projected to have $5M+ at the deadline? If so I would be surprised if they didn't use most of that either in smaller deals or a bigger move with retention.

You're supposed to understand that while his shooting percentage was high the last 2 years, his shooting percentage this year is very low, and the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Also, just my eye test opinion but it seems to me the quality of the shots this year is not very good. Lots of nice perimeter passing but not much action around the netmouth. Those shots, the rebound shots, the dirty, grinding ones, the broken plays…those shots I’d assume are higher percentage shots. And the rangers don’t get many of those. Shooting percentage is not just luck or facing hot goalies. It’s also important to consider the quality of the shots the team is getting. Once they start digging and battling in front of the goalie I think the shooting percentage will go up.

Canes and Penguins had plenty of chances to close us out and couldn’t, if you want to call us lucky so be it, but it didn’t feel lucky to me.

The Rangers current window is artificially short because Igor is making half of his market value for another 2.5 years. There will be transitional retool around that point no matter what. They need to win in the next 3, nothing is guaranteed after that. Act accordingly

I dunno - I just looked @ Capfriendly and it says 6M this year and RFA with arbitration rights this summer. Am I missing something?
