"We're going to be in the market," Treliving said of a possible trade or free-agent signing to help shore up the left side. "The good news is that we have some young guys that we think have taken some steps, but we're certainly going to be looking at potential options on our blueline."

For the love of God, please trade Marc Staal and/or Brendan Smith to Calgary

And first names magically change too. Henrik > Hank. Vaclav > Vinny. Jakub > Jake.

This is very common for foreigners working in the US. I work for a Japanese company and like 80% of the expats that come over from Japan americanize their names so it's easier to pronounce, i.e. Yoshihito -> Brad or Satoshi -> Ash

"The New York Rangers Have The Number One Ranked Prospect Pool. - NHL.com"

My favorite twilight zone episode title.

Seriously, we all knew this and it's cool that we all haven't been running around like raving d**kheads. Great job on playing it cool fellas while we've all known this since we drafted KK.

Righteous.

I'm sure Calgary would love to trade for Staal or Smith and those awful contracts

Does Treliving have a death wish

Ouch.

I have had two ACL surgeries. One on each knee. Totally ruined my sports career in juniors (a different sport though) and even today I can still feel it is not okay when I go jogging and twist my leg in a weird motion or something.

I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone. Even not an Islander.
Yep I hear you man. I don't care what anyone says you're never the same especially at the level of playing defense in the NHL. Just sucks. I guess doing it at 20 is better than doing it at close to 30 when you're surrounding tissues/cartilage are in better condition but who knows how much collateral damage there was from the ACL injury.

They aren’t misjudging anyone. There is no cap space to give him a long term deal and for all we know that’s why he hasn’t signed yet

This isn’t correct. You cannot think of cap space as something you have or don’t have. Having cap space is worth assets and creating cap space costs assets. We could have created cap space to give TDA a reasonable contract, and not be forced to give him a contract that probably lead to him being really overpaid or leaving without returning market value.

With that said, of course it is a legit debate whether TDA is worth what it would have taken to get room to lock him up. To me it just seem like if we Gorton gets someone who has produced elsewhere he is willing to pay them anything, like 4m per for Namestnikov. Home grown players are never worth the bother.

Think it was part of an extended-Hayes deal with calgary. BBKers had info on it
Thought that was Kylington+2nd? Doubt Flames would trade Valimaki for even a signed Hayes. I’m not a fan of him but apparently Flames org/fans think he’ll be a top pairing D

Off-topic, but I've done some preliminary watching of 2020 Draft prospects and aside from Lafreniere, Byfield, Raymond and Holtz, this J.L. Foudy kid looks like a star in the making. Maybe we'll trade Kreider for an unprotected first rounder and have a chance at one of these studs? I mean we're going to win the Stanley Cup after all...

On the Post article on Kreider.

Every now and then we see posters bring up “mistakes” by Brooks, like I saw “Richards won’t be a Ranger”. And there have been a few like that, but to me that has always been management using Brooks in negotiations. When people want more, it’s a way of calling that bluff. Brooks was certainly getting info directly or indirectly from Slats at this time. When it fitted Slats purpose. Like the Zucc contract negotiation.

Like you know, we make a final offer to say Richards, Richards want more, we leak that we are out on him to Brooks (calling his bluff) and see where it goes.

Anyway, was thinking about that when I saw the post article. Something have been going on with Kreider. This message could have a two-folded purpose.

Anglicise is the word.

I don't think going from Yoshihito to Brad is an example of that. It's just picking a new, Western name. Anglicising things is going from Carlos to Charles and the like.

The Flames will use their remaining cap space to sign Tkachuk. The Flames have been looking to move Brodie, Hamonic and Frolik to free up money without any success. All of them have one year remaining on their contracts.

There are too many teams looking to shed money. There are so many unsigned veteran free agents. Some of those players will have a tough getting an NHL contract. There are so many unsigned group II free agents. Money is very tight with so many teams. Just look at front page of Capfriendly.

Some of the group II players without any leverage will have to accept their qualifying offer. There is no other way.

Pittsburgh is trying to clear money to sign Pettersson

Jim Rutherford says defenseman Marcus Pettersson will have a new contract before the Penguins open training camp next month.

It just might not be the kind of deal that either side would prefer.

Pettersson will sign his qualifying offer.

DeAngelo and Lemieux are in the same boat.

Tony needs to get off twitter. He liked a tweet last week/two weeks ago and then he unliked the tweet. There are screenshots of the tweet.

DeAngelo will not take around 1M.

Training camp begins in four weeks. Teams report on September 12 and the 13th is the first day on ice.
