I feel the organization is coming close to misjudging TDA the same way it misjudged a young Zucc.
There is no evidence to support this. Gorton traded for DeAngelo. Quinn invested time and much effort into improving him as a player. This is simply about managing cap space for a few years.

Gates or Olofsson would be very nice, though I thought I saw Olofsson signed somewhere in Sweden. Hayden Hawkey, despite the ridiculous name, would be a good add as we could use another guy in net here in the U.S. Priskie is obviously good as well but I can't imagine he'd want to come here given our current depth on defense.

I don't know most of the other guys. I thought Joe Masonius was already a free agent last year, guess not.

Masonius is an amazing name. Have we come full circle back to Roman times? That'd be fun.
His name is actually Joe Masonius, not the other way around. Still a neat last name, not quite as impressive as if it were his first name.

Don't remember him ever getting those kind of matchups and he certainly didn't get the penalty time that almost always go with those kind of matchups. He finished the season with 10 seconds average per game in penalty kill time.

To go through this again though DeAngelo made very good progress last year but the Rangers coaching staff were very careful with him. There were a lot of scratches for a while but as the season went along he got more and more ice time. Quinn broke him in very slowly--like you would break in a guy on your third pair and I think he responded well for that and he got more and more minutes but he never really got the tougher minutes. All in all last year proved he's a legit NHL player. It didn't prove he was a top 4 D though--so let's see what he can do this year.

He for sure did, 300+ minutes worth of ice against elite level competition. Pionk got more but he also A. Played more games and B. Was playing in that role for far too long (as you've said.) DeAngelo handled them much, much better than Pionk did and that was while carrying around an epically horrible version of Staal. @Blue Blooded outlined this earlier in this thread, Staal's numbers away from DeAngelo after Jan 1st are borderline historically bad, like so bad that you'd think that they were hyperbole.

He didn't get the PK minutes, thats true but it wouldn't really be right to assume he wouldn't do well/better than what we threw out there. Pionk was horrible on the PK (as was Staal.) Yes our PK was really, really bad, but those 2 were a big reason why it was as bad as it was. One way or another, we're going to find out if he can handle them this year since I doubt they throw Fox into that fire.

The Rangers tried to acquire this player last season.

Ouch.

I have had two ACL surgeries. One on each knee. Totally ruined my sports career in juniors (a different sport though) and even today I can still feel it is not okay when I go jogging and twist my leg in a weird motion or something.

I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone. Even not an Islander.

Ask yourself this...why did Drury, in his role as National Team GM, take Fox to World Championships instead of D’Angelo?

Well, last season US Team took Pionk over D'Angelo and we know how that one went.

Trouba should take pressure off the entire defense. Players should slot a lot better. Jacob might not quite be an elite D but he'll pass pretty well for a legit 1st pairing D. To me he's equal to a younger Ryan McDonagh. I look at Skjei more as a legit top 4 D who was asked to be a first pairing D after McD was dealt but really wasn't up to the job. Paired with Trouba he might be but paired with an RD other than Trouba it also might help solidify a top 4 in a kind of spread the wealth around way. I wouldn't necessarily have Panarin and Zibanejad together either--I'd be more of a mind to have the main drivers of two separate lines.

You know, I can't remember a single NYR hockey related topic since the rebuild when we'd have a difference of opinions. It's boring to keep giving you likes, old man (relatively).

Honestly don't remember but are you saying THIS was the reason for Pionk over ADA at the Worlds last year?
I'm saying that would be (if I'm remembering correctly) a reason that DeAngelo wouldn't be considered. I wasn't speculating on what would happen had DeAngelo been healthy.
