Assuming we go 13F, 7D, 2G, this roster allows us to offer DeAngelo a 2 year bridge in the 2.2m-2.4m range.

Panarin
Zib
Kravtsov
Kakko
Chytil
Buch
Kreider
Names
Strome
Lemieux
Howden
Fast
Andy/Nieves/McKegg

Skjei
Trouba
DeAngelo
Staal
Fox
Hajek
Smith/Rykov/Lindgren

Hank
Geo/Igor

Or Names/Strome gets moved and we give DeAngelo 4 or 5 years at 4 per

I'd stick with a 2 year deal at 2m per. He has shown for half a season that he can be an adult with his life. He was constantly having issues outside of hockey for his first two years. Plus we have a ton of defense prospects.

Long-term deal, he's been nothing more than a mediocre at best player, I will pass.
I'm jumping on that.

Almost every top young player suffers in Arizona, then they get traded and start to flourish (Domi, Strome, and yes DeAngelo).

2 seasons ago he was 5th in points behind Domi, he was injured last season so maybe his value will be lower.

Kreider for Dvorak and a 1st.

I wonder if part of the reason they chose to buyout Shattenkirk as opposed to making different moves is because of their reported interest in Brian Boyle. We know Boyle is a leader and an emotional guy and I have to think having number 22 available for him would mean a lot. I don't personally think they should be looking to sign a player like him (I'd prefer someone more like Brassard who at least if he bounces back could be a 2nd line player) but if they are interested this is just one additional perk to try and entice him.
Hope they aren't buying out #22 so they can sign Brian Boyle..

A Shattenkirk buyout wasn’t what I preferred (it’s been beaten to death by those who preferred a Staal and or Smith buyout + trade) but I trust Gorton and the braintrust running the Rangers.

They have multiple maps laid out and have probably discussed all avenues. I don’t think it boiled down to veteran presence or tenure quite honestly. There are a lot of layers to it. It was a move that made the most sense after a lot of deliberation I’m sure.

With that said, this tells me they must be very high on Fox. Another certainty is they painted themselves in a corner and got nothing substantial in return for Names, Strome or Kreider (and possibly Buch as well).

I could still see any one of those three (more likely Names & Kreider) moved in or after camp due to injuries around the league. One positive of this is that you aren’t forced to make a deal when all of their values are at their lowest.

For Kreiders standpoint alone I’m happy he wasn’t shipped out for what was going to be pennies on the dollar. I’m of the camp that if there is a vet to extend in this league it’s Kreider - for the right price.

Either way his value will be much higher come deadline time but I’m not thrilled with having to go through another year counting the games and hoping he stays on the ice. But that’s another story.

Adult with his life? Humor me and give me some of these off ice issues

Edit: Or is this still just solely about him having a temper on the ice at times

Would love to move Namestnikov for a 3rd round pick before the season starts.

Lemmy and ADA sign their QOs.

Send Beleskey and Smith down. Smith can be called up if needed.

That puts you at $1.96 in space to start the season with 13 forwards and 6 D. More space if you have Kravtsov start in Hartford, which I would be more comfortable with now that we know Knoblauch is the coach.

You could then possibly sign a cheap veteran forward or D as the spare for maybe $1-$1.5 on a 1 year deal.

If they move Namestnikov, then Kravtsov has a spot OR you sign a Veteran Forward on the cheap.

They have some flexibility here. Ideal move is to get Names money off the books.

We know who will be on the top pair. The debate now is trying to figure out the bottom 4 d. You figure the job is Fox’s to lose on the right side. If they send Smith down that frees up one spot on the left side. I doubt Quinn will want to pair 2 rookies together on the third pair. That leaves Staal most likely with Fox, and DeAngelo with one of Lindgren, Hajek, and Rykov.

I don’t get how sending Smith down saves anything when his roster spot goes to a kid that takes up barely less than 1 million anyway . Just let Smith spare

Ideally still trade Kreider if they get enough in the deal .... Quinn is going to want to carry 8 D... they need more space

You’re missing the point. You send Smith down to clear a spot for a kid.

DeAngelo thinks he’s getting more than a QO, but there’s no way he does. They don’t have the space to do more anyways

Can’t see any trades happening now. There will be another sell off at the deadline, even though the team has stressed multiple times they don’t want to do that again

Funny how that works
