Or the very normal option of holding him and trading him at the deadline if we are out of contention or if we are doing better than expected and in playoff position holding him and likely extending him??

Thought it went without saying but I would also consider any scenario that ends in a long term UFA $ deal for Kreider also to be a giant mistake.

Adult with his life? Humor me and give me some of these off ice issues

Edit: Or is this still just solely about him having a temper on the ice at times

His long list of past attitude issues, his conduct on the ice and last year being late to practices. So yes he does still have some issues. Again I know everyone wants to look at his projected numbers but those are not his real numbers and he just began to produce at the NHL level. What besides his projected stats which are not real stats would make you want to give him a long term contract?

He has made under 1m a year and giving him a 4m dollar raise aav for 4 to 5 years to me doesnt make sense. He can easily be had for less money and I want to see him prove himself for a full season before committing long term. My off would be 2.5 for 3 years and meet in the middle

Any long term contract for Kreider is a disaster waiting to happen.

He should have been moved already but him not being moved at the deadline would be idiotic

Playoff race or not

We're already locked and stocked at forward if neither Kreider or Namestnikov are immediately on the outs.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Panarin-Namestnikov-Kakko
Chytil-Strome-Kravtsov
Lemieux-Howden-Fast

And that's with Andersson, Nieves, McKegg, and Beleskey in the AHL. I'm also being cynical by putting the veterans at middle-6 center rather than the rookies.
In your scenario Hopefully Kakko- Panarin can make Names look like a top 6 NHL player again like when he was in Tampa. this way we can ship the fools gold to someone else at the TDL for a 3rd rounder.

Gardner is looking for term and money.

shatty can probably be had at 2 for 4.
If he gets paid in ground beef he's still coming out ahead.
Frankly, if I'm Shatty, I take the phone off the hook for the next six months and good around with my newborn and wife.
Start going to the gym after the holidays and see if anyone needs a ppqb ahead of the roster freeze.

If Smith is the 7D and 13th forward combined, he may actually save the team money as compared to sending him down and needing to carry two other players. At this point, I think it’s likely he is in the NHL

People keep whispering about these "issues" but no one actually says what they are. I'm still waiting. As far as I can gather, AdA is a crass loudmouth who voiced political opinions unpopular with the internet.
And apparently was late to practice.
If there's more to it, I'd love to know.

He's been late to practice and gets heated on the ice

I guess half the NHL needs to grow up

That Radulov sure is a petulant child!

But yes, I am sure being late and and getting into during a hockey game means his attitude is just terrible for a hockey team. His teammates must hate him, they sure wouldn't be vacationing with him during the offseason or going out with him during the year! And even if they did, they surely wouldn't have those things on social media because they definitely wouldn't want to associate with someone who has such a bad attitude!

He has pushed people on the ice, and he was obnoxious during practices and games when he was 18 before the NHL.

When Hayes was on a podcast he told a story of a time that he a couple other teammates straight up ditched their car in traffic because they were so late.

Glad we traded him and didn't re-sign him; I can't imagine if those attitude issues rubbed off on DeAngelo even more!

Kravtsov or Lias start in Hartford. Fox too. Then it works. Would ease the process, likely give a slightly better return at the TDL and have us send a 3rd instead of a 2nd to Carolina. Small steps cooling down the development process by easing young players in while adding (small) assets
With Lettieri on the team and Lias in Hartord you save nearly 200.000. A couple more similar moves can be made if you need to. Not ideal, but probably better then to trade Kreider for peanuts. There is room to pay Lemeuix approx. 1 mill and DeAngelo 2 mill. A month or two into the season, some teams will have injuries. Some will have under performed. This is the time to make the trades and get a good return.

No. He saves a roster spot compared to a buy-out...

But assuming his contract is on the books then yeah you can keep him up and he saves money compared to signing two guys

LMFAO I love that story. Him and yandle left JT Miller's car on the side of the saw mill parkway

You quote me on just that part and yet not on why you believe he deserves 4xs his aav in a pay raise? You state its bc of his potential stats of what could be. So please besides that for what reason would you sign a player for 4 years at 4m aav when he hasn't shown he deserves it yet?

We have $3,535,201 in available cap space. 12 fwds, 5 d, 2 g
2 RFAs left to sign. 1 fwd, 1 d. Close to QOs is the likeliest route.
Maybe add a cheap vet UFA #7D, less likely but possible is an added Vet fwd at ~$925 to insulate roster in case all kids not ready. Two tradable assets for something small at TDL.
Totally doable. NYR caught in “Cap Hell” was a very short state of existence...

Net effect of Shattenkirks buyout for next year
Savings Dan Girardi $2.500.000
Savings Matt Bellesky $825.000
Buyout Kevin Shattenkirk $6,083,333
Net buyout effect 2020/2021: -$2.758.333

This is not optimal. But there was “no other way” with the trade market being totally down the drain due to lower cap increase than expected and a slew of unsigned RFAs in the league limiting options. Minnesota firing their GM also came a couple days too early ;). Come TDL - we can get much better value for all of our short term pieces. Especially if we retain money. Return on Kreider at 50% could be massive from desperate hubristic “contenders”. It is what it is. Uncle Larry rolled a Lebowski strike on this one. Looking fwd to the season!

I was addressing just one part that I took issue with.

I understand being skeptical of his on ice ability going forward and that you would rather bridge him than hedge bets.

Signing him to a 5 year deal could pay off in years 3/4/5 if he continues to develop to a consistent 2nd pair 40 pt defenseman like we have seen his skills are capable of. It could be a contract that pays off big time in 3 years when we have a few crucial ELCs up [and judging by current market for high tier players coming off their ELCs, that could get tricky if some of our young studs do in fact become studs].

He was a teenage kid from Jersey... he’s bred to be an obnoxious and tough teen. His teammates seem to like him. I haven’t heard about drug use or infighting. I love the way he moves the puck and that he has an inherent toughness. I think he’s going to be a great #3 as early as this season. I’d lock him up if I could find the money.

I hope he gets 5 years then shows up day one in a red hat just to watch the board explode.

.....especially if he's still having issues with his knee. Give it a proper rest and see what happens.

On DeAngelo--I don't know if the Rangers intend to play hardball with him (and Lemieux). A month ago I would have said $2 or 2.5 x 2. IMO he made good progress last year but he still has stuff he needs to prove. For instance--can he be an all situations defenseman? If he can then he turns into a top 4 D every day player. I think he's earned a bigger paycheck but I'm not sure he's going to get it this year. He's between a rock and hard place. To me there are too many questions still to be answered that I'd feel comfortable giving him more than a bridge deal. I certainly wouldn't be throwing $4 mil per for 5 years at him. 2 x $2.5 would have been fair but it looks like he's getting more hard love again--not so much about playing time but paycheck. Sometimes it sucks to be young but even so he's still living the dream and even a little bit less than a $1 mil a year is a hell of a lot more than most people make.

Doubt many here know what those issues are, even if they exist. DeAngelo's problems before the Rangers are well documented, and this past season Quinn benched him multiple times, with some at least for off ice reasons. Quinn and DeAngelo have both been quiet about the details, but combine those benchings with his history and it's easy to see why he draws scrutiny. Justified or not. It's not like we internet folks don't constantly overanalyze everything to feed our fears. Plus not everything is about politics, unpopular political opinions don't make him immune to hockey related criticism.

I don’t think either side is playing hardball the cap situation just forces them to wait. It tells me they want to sign them for more than 1 year.

Pure speculation but my guess is they have talked to both guys about a multi year deal if they can clear enough space and a 1 year deal with an extension Jan 1 if they can’t
