He listed KZB under one block (Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich) and Lemieux is also not listed. You have 11 names under forwards.... Kreider is missing, who is the last one?

Were not signing an 8th dman. That was ridiculous last year would be even more so this year with all the kids in Hartford we should be giving looks too.
Smith can play forward left D and right D. He’s not worth 4 million dollars but there’s certainly value in that. He can cover 2 roster spots alone.
Rykov and Hajek both are going to push hard for NHL spots. Lindgren is serviceable we don’t need another Freddy Claesson eating up mins from a kid. This is a rebuild. Weve got plenty of veteran D.

Keeping Smith up is essentially the same thing as signing a 6/7 for $1m. Frankly, as much as I don't like Smith, I'd rather have him up with the Rangers than sulking in Hartford (like he did last time).
Lemieux

Gorton is doing an excellent job. The players are also to blame when they don’t live up to their contracts.Tend to agree althoughhhhhhhh
This IS the same GM who signed Shatty 2 years ago, and who gave Namestnikov 4Mx2
Both of those moves put us in this spot. Panarin and Trouba also for sure, but we have to wait and see there right?????
Which part?
Shattenkirk wasn't worth the 6.65 he was making, but Staal and Smith weren't even worth a 1/4 of their deals.
"Frankly, as much as I don't like Smith, I'd rather have him up with the Rangers than sulking in Hartford (like he did last time)."
If you're referring to why I don't like Smith, it's mostly about the bad penalties he takes.
If you're referring to why I'd rather have him with the big club rather than sulking in Hartford... what I mean by that is that he wouldn't be sulking with the Rangers and having someone sulking like that around the youth is not a great idea. Given that the Rangers aren't really about wins and losses this year and Hartford is going to have several young D, we may as well keep him up.
It was the second part. I agree it' s not ideal for him to sulk, but look at the cap savings we get from burying him in Hartford
I fully expect the Rangers to sign a defenseman similar to the McQuaid acquisition last year. Preferably RHD.
McQuaid would be perfect if he was completely healthy. He has a concussion near the end of the regular season and was never cleared to return. That’s very concerning.
My guess is that if Michael Stone is bought out by Calgary, he becomes a top candidate. 1 year, $1MM.
Another benefit of keeping Smith up is his willingness to drop the gloves. And if he surprisingly plays well, Gorton might be able to move him with retention. If you're referring to why I don't like Smith, it's mostly about the bad penalties he takes.

Yet even with those two things this club is still rebuilding and just had to buy out a player for 6M who was signed for two more years. A rebuilding club 4M over the cap, and isn’t planning on (or shouldn’t plan on) being a playoff team.I think those moves need to be looked at in the right context. Every GM in the league with cap space would have signed Shatty to the hometown deal he gave the Rangers. The guy had an injury, it happens. Maybe he would have been better this year from the reports coming out, who knows. But I can't blame Gordon for that signing. Nemestnikov is still an asset and got market rate for a resign. Maybe with the loss of Hayes there are plans for him to play a role here.
In the end two things happened to fall into our laps. Kakko and Panarin. Nobody could have predicted either. They both instantly change the direction of the team. Had Panarin not happened, I am sure Shatty would still be here. But if you have a chance to add a guy of his level you take it, and then work out the other issues that come with it.
This is a great referendum for Chiarelli. He was undermined by the failure of his acquisitions. I'm buying into the "GMs are above rebuke" philosophy. The hallmark of sound judgment is the ability to apply it consistently.Gorton is doing an excellent job. The players are also to blame when they don’t live up to their contracts.
Cry me a f***ing river. As I said last night, hasnt played a single game and youre already deeming it a disaster.JD’s first major move was to give a a 28 year old winger $81.5 million over seven seasons. That contract has epic disaster written all over it.

So why Michael Stone over someone like Freddie Claesson or Alex Petrovic?
