Stone would be a good third pairing/7D option if we didn't have so many other options in-house already available.

Skjei-Trouba
Staal-ADA
Smith-Fox
Hajek-Rykov
Lindgren

The only place for Stone would be on that bottom pairing, and as it is right now, we have a few in-house players, as listed above, that I think the team would prefer to go with over Stone.

Maybe a PTO for camp and then if they feel the kid(s) aren't ready for the 3RD spot out of the gate, they sign him to 1x1 and then have him play there until they feel a guy or two in HFD is ready to come up mid-season and then keep Stone around as 7D for the remainder of the season or something.

Rykov isn't an RD and just because a guy is ready for a spot out of camp doesn't mean he'll be in a place where the NHL is the best place for him all year long. I wouldn't be shocked if Fox made the team out of camp, but needed some time in Hartford over the course of the year.

Question: who would you have been more comfortable being on the second pair this season and why: Tony DeAngelo or Kevin Shattenkirk? It's more of a commentary on how many of you guys are slating TDA for top-4 minutes.

Because while DeAngelo showed a lot of potential this past season, his career has been plagued with inconsistencies.

Of course.

I'm just saying that the Rangers have a few players they will likely look at slotting in on the bottom pairing over Stone.

I definitely think a PTO for camp and then seeing how things go from there is the best option.

This is a great referendum for Chiarelli. He was undermined by the failure of his acquisitions. I'm buying into the "GMs are above rebuke" philosophy. The hallmark of sound judgment is the ability to apply it consistently.
No one gets it right all the time. But Gorton is getting right most of the time. Time will tell.

Yeah he was suspended 8 games for verbal abuse on one of his own teammates and suspended two different times for abuse of officials.

I'm totally willing to believe in growth and change but lets not rewrite history that DeAngelo didn't have some really serious problems and was being benched and traded around the league for no reason.

This stuff happened YEARS ago... its almost like people never grow up though, amirite?

I see one in Fox. I don't see another.

Honestly, it depends on the LD partner, and it's probably going to be Staal nine times out of ten at 2LD...both would have to carry Staal up and down the ice, which is not ideal for either of them.

For me, it's DeAngelo in a heartbeat. Yes he makes some mistakes, but the guy wants the puck on his stick. Mistakes happen.

I guess what I'm confused about is the guys who want DeAngelo and Fox to play over Shatty, but would rather have Staal and/or Smith play over Hajek, Rykov, Lindgren and/or Reunanen.

His "career" extends to a whopping 3 years on NHL teams, and he is only 23. Lets pump the god damned brakes for a minute

Rykov played the right side in the KHL a decent amount. Heck, Smith plays the right side if needed.

But you're right, gotta stick lefties on the left side and righties on the right side and nothing else.

Shattenkirk plays the right siOHWAIT.

On an optimistic note Kreider could really goose his trade deadline value by playing in front of the net on a PP unit with Kakko and Panarin all year.

So what? Not that I disagree because 23 to me is still extremely young, but you have players put on waivers who are even younger. Hell, look at Pool Party. People are calling him a bust and he's only 21.

Rykov can play RD, has done so before. Doesn't mean he should, particularly as a rookie, but it's not an unfamiliar spot for him.
