Think most aren't talking about him because, like you said, he's basically a guarantee to start in the AHL, unless he beats out DeAngelo for the roster spot, which I don't think is likely to happen.

That's kinda my point though. We didn't pull one of the biggest college free agent dman to play him in Hartford. He won't need much AHL time and it doesn't appear we have a lot of NHL spots open, especially if we sign Shattenkirk. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we shouldn't sign KS, but maybe Gorton wanted to opt for the cheaper option on defense to spend elsewhere, or hell, even to have cap flexibility.

It just seems to me that Gorton is addressing the "offensive dman" (which is a complete misrepresentation of Shattenkirk) via the cheap/trade option in Deangelo and Pionk. Both are younger and more cost controlled too and will be better in the 2-3 year window that it seems Gorton's aiming for to truly compete again

With the crazy prices for D so far - I hope we can pry something valuable (2nd?) for Holden at least. Staal would be a pipedream (package him retained with Graves and a pick and maybe somebody bites? - if he waives...)

2nd might be pushing it, but I would want a 3rd. His value should have increased after hitting a career high in points, and we got him for a 4th.

We need another no defense, no possession with mediocre point center like we need a hole in the head. He can't even win face offs either.. 47%

Jk ignore everything I just said. Bring in Bonino and Shattenkirk. Old college teammates and deep state Greeley connections at work. #cawlidgehawkey

Dreger: "I know the #NYR have interest in either Thornton or Marleau. They have interest in Nick Bonino."

"rebuild on the fly"

I think Bonino is a fine middle 6 C, my issue is that he's probably getting term (and a bit too much money to boot).

Nick Bonino for 2-3 years i'm good with, Nick Bonino for 4+ years is awful imo, he's already trending down.

Want no part of Bonino.

Would rather give Thornton 3 years than Bonino 5. Yuck. Talk about someone who will be overpaid for what he is worth. Bonino. Gross
