Before the DeAngelo acquisition and the Smith and the (possibly inevitable) Shattenkirk signings, I would've penciled Pionk in as the 3rd pair RHD. Now, he'll probably be an emergency call-up, especially if Kampfer sucks.

perhaps andersson

and we remain competitive. JG doing his job.

Think most aren't talking about him because, like you said, he's basically a guarantee to start in the AHL, unless he beats out DeAngelo for the roster spot, which I don't think is likely to happen.
 
Just watched some highlights from today's scrimmage..Bear Hands(or is it claw can't remember) is big...didn't realize he is 6'4''

agreed.

hes an older player and so thats good but he's still behind deangelo and bereglazov

he's probably close and will be a call up from hartford but for now, deangelo and his nhl ready top end offensive game and bereglazov and his mature, KHL playoff performer game are both more ready.

no not older like that but not a kid who's 19.

he's played 2 yrs college hockey after 3 yrs of juniors.

hes mature and close to ready to be a pro right now.

I'm so excited to see him play here. Think his game will translate wonderfully.
Expect top pairing play honestly, although I know he won't get top pairing minutes.

If the Rangers are not going to sign anyone else for D... This is what I'd do...

Staal-Berezgalov
Holden.
 
Now that we have some shiny new defensemen lets attack our other weakness and find us a cool all star type forward. He can play wing. I'm not locked in on a center. Just needs to be great :D

With the crazy prices for D so far - I hope we can pry something valuable (2nd?) for Holden at least. Staal would be a pipedream (package him retained with Graves and a pick and maybe somebody bites? - if he waives...)
