I honestly think Necas, who'll likely come in around 8-9 long-term after next season, makes more sense for you guys and how your team is structured. He's an All Star caliber player and should still give you guys more flexibility on the Makar and Mac extensions than Rantanen at 12+ would have.
Necas coming in long-term at 8-9 is the only thing I wonder about. If he stays consistent next to MacKinnon he's going to want to get paid like a top tier wing. And they may have just kicked the can for a year on what you're willing to pay a wing.

Yep, I feel like that would have been his ask if he was still a Cane/70 pt player. Now with the Avs he's possibly a 100pt player...my guess is 10 plus

This doesn't seem like it's real, I thought it was AI, but it seems like this is directly said to Adam Gold in an interview. Canes Corner Podcast from last night, ~13:50.

That's a shocking amount of candor from RBA.

The piping hot tea from ROD?

My problem with Stankoven is more so us bringing in another small guy, especially if he’s a long term 2C prospect. Aho and Stankoven is a really tiny 1-2 punch at C, everything else about him is great I’m just wary when we already lost a lot of size on the back end last summer.

I agree with this. I like that Rod is typically willing to give you honesty on where things stand but there are times where I just don't think it's helpful. It doesn't seem helpful here.
I agree and I think the other part of why this sounds harsher than he means it is he probably includes himself in the "we" given he's got more say in personnel matters than most every other coach in the league. Obviously not a move Tulsky/Dundon make without Rod's blessing. That's something he knows and we as fans know, but doesn't come off well in these quotes without that context.

A few days later and a win under our belts and I’m even more convinced we’ll be fine than I was day of.

A fun aspect of this that hasn’t been discussed as much: Tulsky’s whole refrain all offseason was bringing guys in that fit the way the Hurricanes want to play under Rod Brind’Amour. It was his oft-repeated summary of the offseason deals.

Well, we’ve always had one guy who was a bit of an outlier there, Necas. So, when it came time to trade him, well, how often do you get a Mikko Rantanen? You’re getting rid of an anti-pattern guy for an even better anti-pattern guy, so go do it, why not?

With the dismount of Rantanen here, we get a guy who, by all accounts, is a picture perfect RBA guy in Stankoven.

So, though circuitous and tumultuous, we’ve ended up making a series of moves that perfect fit the stated MO of the front office from the offseason. Identity FTW!

I'll admit I've never had a young player seemingly untouchable from another team that I wanted so much and actually got him. You got your first taste last night. The litte f***er is fearless. He's like a damn badger.

Last year when nachos took us to arbitration I wanted to trade him for tank. Here we are. And scored a ppg with a NET FRONT on his first game.

You bitched for years about a net front guy. You never knew it would come in a 5'8 170 lb package. The kid is like a damn cattle dog out there.

Agreed plus early returns on the other acquisition was of course good. What I like about Janky is that he is big and fits the 4th line/PK roles really well.
Our "4th line" yesterday was awesome.

Hopefully it continues and we have "3rd & 4th" lines that are O zone time eat

I really, really like Jankowski's attitude so far. Hes a hell of an Upgrade to Jost.

Seravalli says the Canes final offer to Rantanen actually was $14M x 8:

He also really poo-poos the feasibility of Marner ever wanting to come to CAR

I mean, Servalli, but on the other hand I hope he's right about Marner. We can build a more balanced team by NOT throwing 14-15M a year at that guy and signing someone like Ehlers for about half that give or take a few hundred K.
