He’s not wrong about Stankoven. He looked very good last year, and while he’s been snakebit this year, it’s not for a lack of effort.

He does seem very Jarvis-esque and Jarvy had a sophomore slump as well. I'm feeling pretty optimistic of things given the situation.

I honestly think Necas, who'll likely come in around 8-9 long-term after next season, makes more sense for you guys and how your team is structured. He's an All Star caliber player and should still give you guys more flexibility on the Makar and Mac extensions than Rantanen at 12+ would have.

Necas coming in long-term at 8-9 is the only thing I wonder about. If he stays consistent next to MacKinnon he's going to want to get paid like a top tier wing. And they may have just kicked the can for a year on what you're willing to pay a wing.

Yep, I feel like that would have been his ask if he was still a Cane/70 pt player. Now with the Avs he's possibly a 100pt player...my guess is 10 plus

My problem with Stankoven is more so us bringing in another small guy, especially if he’s a long term 2C prospect. Aho and Stankoven is a really tiny 1-2 punch at C, everything else about him is great I’m just wary when we already lost a lot of size on the back end last summer.

I agree with this. I like that Rod is typically willing to give you honesty on where things stand but there are times where I just don't think it's helpful. It doesn't seem helpful here.

I agree and I think the other part of why this sounds harsher than he means it is he probably includes himself in the "we" given he's got more say in personnel matters than most every other coach in the league. Obviously not a move Tulsky/Dundon make without Rod's blessing. That's something he knows and we as fans know, but doesn't come off well in these quotes without that context.

With the dismount of Rantanen here, we get a guy who, by all accounts, is a picture perfect RBA guy in Stankoven.

Agreed plus early returns on the other acquisition was of course good. What I like about Janky is that he is big and fits the 4th line/PK roles really well.

We could probably get Ehlers or Boeser in for $8M per, though if Winnipeg goes deep, Ehlers probably won't make it to market.

I find it weird people are calling the 1st round picks “late”. 2026 probably will be, but 2028? It’s not outside the realm of possibility the Stars have a crap season 3 years from now.

I want us to do one of 2 things.

1 - Bring in absurdly high levels of offensive talent to go with the Slavin, Nikishin, Chatty, Morrow, etc defense we have.
2 - Bring in some heavy hitting tough sons a bitches that make playing against us in a 7 game series a living hell that goes beyond just grinding the boards, but also laying bodies on you and playing over the line more often than not knowing the refs can't call everything.

As much as Option 1 would be awesome, I think #2 is the more realistic play that possibly has more meaningful change to us over the long term.
