Can't wait until we stop talking about trading McDonagh.
Has the entire board gone into bernmeister mode?

not even close yet, lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

Exactly this. If McD is willing to take a shorter term deal, I'm glad to keep him, but I don't see him getting anything less that 6 x 6.

I'm sure we aren't going to trade him this year though. Give Skjei another year to show if he can be a 1st pair guy and see if any of the other guys are capable of playing top 4 on the left side. We'll also see what other dmen are brought in through free agency and trade.

If our young guys progress well, McDonagh may very well be traded next summer. Don't forget that McDonagh has had shoulder injuries and has played a lot of hockey the last 6 years, so there are some miles on his body.

They have to trade McDonagh now. They won't get as good value if he is about to go into UFA. The time is now.
trade NOW

Some people on this board think they're playing a video game. They also think we need to trade anyone over 26 and just endlessly acquire assets. Young assets > winning.

People were talking about full rebuilds during the 2014 cup run, 2015 president's trophy season and ECF run. I honestly believe some on here would've been happier to have traded McDonagh and Hank and anyone else of value and "win" the trade by acquiring tons of futures, instead of going on the Cup run.

The idea is you give up known value vs potential, so you get high upside in large enough quantity. Then percentage wise, you should win

Going for cup cup cup all the time without corresponding build, build, build and you see where that has gotten us.

ideal scenario imo would be to get rid of staal and holden so the kids can battle for the 3rd pair but not holding my breath on staal-holden not being a pair next year
Max opportunities for kid D is prefer, so as to expedite their development

Staal won't go and he'll be 3LHD. I'm hoping we can get Holden to go or be the 7D.
We have to pay Marc, but we don't have to play him.
He can be invited to participate at all practices, but be a healthy scratch for every single game.

The Oilers aren't trading Draisaitl. The Rangers should not offer sheet him either. Edmonton will just match and then they will come after Rangers RFA's. It's a waste. Edmonton will just trade RNH to lake cap room
This, unfortunately.

McD + JT Miller for RNH + Draisaitl
no
lose JT + RNH.

even w/other NY add which would be tolerable for us, they will not move him

I thought you were allowed to talk contract you just couldn't "agree" to anything until the 1st

and to me..market value is something the rangers can not afford to get into. market value = overpaying.

the deals you overpay always...ALWAYS come back to bite you in the ass.

I have zero doubts whatsoever in 2 years this will be another Girardi or Staal like situation. None.

If you dont want to pay market value for anyone then why bother?

With that mindset you're never resigning anyone including your own players

I see Zibanejad getting a slight bump over what Kreider got. If only because he plays the more coveted position. Something in the $4.8-4.9M range.

That's still a bit high IMO but $5.5 (as someone else suggested) is too much for what he's accomplished. $4.8-.9 is also more than Zucc and McDonagh are getting. I'd expect a bunch of years from Mika--like 6--for $5.5.

because at this point in time the rangers arent competing for a cup. they just arent.

its better for them to not get into that game, and instead develop their own kids.

unless JG has something up his sleeve to get a legit superstar center, or a center with untapped superstar upside. (MacKinnon seems the most obvious choice..but there may be others out there...Galchenyuk if he rights himself? i just dont see a squad with Zib, Miller, Hayes and ? competing with the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Backstrom, AO, etc, etc, etc.

They just arent good enough down the middle. Losing Stepan hurts if you dont get anything back whatsoever to replace him. ESPECIALLY when you lose Lindberg too.

Eh, you can't really use McDonagh as a measuring stick. He's only on his second deal. This will be Zibby's third.

I'm sure they're debating internally on just what his upside is going to be. That's the big question moreso than what he's accomplished to date.

I don't see Zibanejad as a $5 mil per year player yet. He's cracked 50 points once. Last year was up and--he ends up with 37 points in 56 games. That would prorate to about 55. He had a good playoff but even so....somewhere around $4.5 is fair.

And raises for Miller, Hayes, and Vesey won't be bank breakers either unless they have superstar years. If they continue as is... well... they aren't getting more than 4, 4.5 I'd think.

I am really looking forward to watching McDonagh this season now that he's finally free from Girardi.

Bereglazov will be on the team. One of the best defensemen in the KHL last year. Day will not. Holy **** is this guy overrated, wasn't even one of the best defensemen on his own team last season.

Pionk probably starts in the AHL, might get a later call up if he has a good season. I think his spot and Graves spot are highly dependent on who else we sign.

You keep driving this awful narrative like it's facts. Windsor had Sergachev who was in a league of his own, then they had Day, Chatfield and Stanley to round out their top 4 which was the best top 4 in the CHL. I'd say those 3 were pretty darn even but i definitely think Day edged out Stanley and Chatfield is 2 years older then Day.

I don't think Day is making NYR but ffs, stop driving this faulty narrative that he was some plug on Windsor, he was very important for them this season.
