Gardner McKay
RIP, Jimmy.
So considering Girardi's buyout cap hit, Smtih is basically G's replacement at a similar total number.
Which, despite my dislike of the deal, is certainly an improvement.
That is a very good way to look at it.

I thought Smith could get $4.5m as a UFA so I was hoping for $4m before July 1st.... Shatty is going to get $7m+ as an UFA lol
Trade Holden and thats $20.6 million to work with.
Sign Zib to $4.750
Shatty to $6.500
Thornton to $3.750 with 35+ incentives that roll over to following year
Sign Fast to $2.00
Boyle to $2.250.
$1.4 mil leftover operating room.

Now with the cap space offer Draisaitl 9.8 million for 10 years. Can you agree to a trade with the Oilers after making offer?

All these people thinking we could have got Shatty for 6.35m, I cannot wait to see the reaction when he gets north of 7m from someone. Also, this was a fair deal for a guy whould would have got 4.5 from someone if he was greedy and went to 7/1.
As long as Skjei - Smith is used as the 2nd pairing, whatever. 350k higher than I would've liked, but it's fine.
Eat 50% of Staal's contract and ship him out please. He's taking up a valuable roster spot
This team has $23m to play with and people are pissed about a couple extra hundred grand....FOH.
Slow and slower
Shatty will have multiple bidders at $7m, and then it is just a matter of what crap team blinks first. He is getting north of 7, I am pretty sure of it.
That no move clause tho
We really don't have anyone other than Smith to play top pair with McD. No one I would trust anyway. Maybe there's another move to be made, I don't know, but If Smith is our best dman on the right side, he should play with McD. Maybe DeAngelo plays with Skjei.
