gotta tell ya..that blonde girl is a little annoying...i get it..shes pretty..and im sure she knows a ton about hockey..wouldnt be surprised if she knew more than I do...with that said...theres just something about her personality that bugs me a bit.

Cerny, for all his boundless optimism...didnt annoy me as much..you knew he was a mouthpiece...thats his job...but he wasnt annoying...she just....bugs me.

Just PMd you....

If he was interested in coming to NY, what would you guys be comfortable offering Jumbo Joe?

37, but still put up 50 points last year (and 82 the year before).

With our current center situation, do you give him a 2 year deal to keep things settled?

Not sure he is a great fit with our system or wingers, but it's a move I can see Gorton exploring at the very least.

Nothing. He's 38 this season coming off a serious knee injury after a full season where he had his worst point total since his rookie year. He's one of the bigger trap UFA's this year in my opinion

Joe Thornton is a bad idea.

was declining, and just had a serious injury.

No thanks.

Its a no for me on a 1 year deal.

just one year ago he had 82 pts in 82 game and another 21 in 24 playoff games. wouldn't call a dip in points when he shot well below career norms (8.6% vs career avg of 13%) a big decline.

Its a big enough decline at age 38 for one to be worried.

Throw in major off-season knee surgery and the answer is no

Edit: plus he is a big dude. His knees may take a year to fully recover if they ever do.

Wonder what Kerfoot is going to do? If he goes UFA route do the Rangers have interest. Will they lean on Vesey?

Would be shocked if he leaves NJ to go to the Rangers. He has a much better chance of playing in the NHL with the Devils

Canucks would be my guess

I would be willing to offer Thornton $4million max over two years max.

Guy is coming off knee surgery, yes, but he has been healthy his whole career and stays in great shape. He will rehab and recover. If he starts the year on IR for the first month then so be it.

Make no mistake, the signings come 07/01 will be to improve the team.

I fully expect Smith and Shattenkirk to sign and it's the right decision to make. It makes the team better now and for the next 4-6 years.

McD - Shattenkirk
Skjei - Smith
???? - ADA

That's a solid and very mobile defence

That sixth slot is for Staal until Bereglazov relieves him of it with Holden available for injuries. That D alone would make the Rangers a better team compared to last year than all these ridiculous McD for Duchene, McD for Mackinnon, McD for some other ass clown posts we're seeing.

Having Stepan out of the lineup also helps, at least on FOs and in the offensive zone. He was atrocious for most of the season and was an anchor to his linemates much like G was to McD.

Resigning Smith, signing Shattenkirk, adding DeAngelo and subtracting Stepan and G makes the team a lot better without giving up any assets.

Every likely playoff team with the space should be in for Thornton for two years. You don't lose that much if that deal goes south.

Which makes me think he'll get three

NYR and Brendan Smith are close to finalizing what is expected to be a four-year deal.

Yay!

Much more likely he ends up closer to Lindberg production than Datsyuk production.

For the love of God please do not be any higher than a $4m AAV.

At least it's not a 6 year deal.

Paying Smith what he wants doesn't scream full rebuild to me. We wouldn't be overpaying a bit to patch a position of need on defense if the team wasnt worried about playoff competition the next few years.

I would really like to stay away from paying Joe Thornton in the season he turns 40 after just coming off major knee surgery.
