If the sign Smith, they have to trade Holden/Staal. They wanted to add younger defense. Can't do that with them + Smith/Shattenkirk.

Holden will go, Staal is the proverbial immovable object my friend, it is NOT going to happen without something bad coming back in the trade. And even then, Staal has said as recently as this summer that he feels he still has something to give the Rangers and wants to be here (read: He is not waving).

I dont think Smith is a 4 mil defenseman.

I think hes a 2.5-3 mil defenseman. Guys who dont put up points really shouldnt get paid.

but id stomach 3.5

4 is rough.

I'd really like them to trade Holden. Sign Smith and go with:

McDonagh-Smith
Skjei-XX
Staal-XX
XX

With the three XX being Bear Gloves, Deangelo and Pionk cycling through. If Pionk isn't ready at camp, claim a 7D off waivers in October.

Gordie dropped a nugget on us. Bereglazov wife teaches English. Should help him transition to the USA.

gotta tell ya..that blonde girl is a little annoying...i get it..shes pretty..and im sure she knows a ton about hockey..wouldnt be surprised if she knew more than I do...with that said...theres just something about her personality that bugs me a bit.

Cerny, for all his boundless optimism...didnt annoy me as much..you knew he was a mouthpiece...thats his job...but he wasnt annoying...she just....bugs me.

Bold prediction:

McDonagh finishes top-10 in Norris trophy voting this season because he doesn't have to drag Girardi around the ice this season.

This prediction of course assuming that AV doesn't give him Staal or Holden as a partner  ...

Bold prediction.

This time next year we'll still be calling for AVs head because of your last statement.

Are we really penciling in Boink and Bear Gloves to the starting line up?

I'm going to have to be convinced that either is ready and on 06/28/17, I'm not convinced.

The Rangers will never be a team that is 5+ million under the cap. They will continue to add players that make the team better while moving guys to continue to fuel the jets.

Brass for Mika and a 2nd
Stepan for ADA and a 1st

Make no mistake, the signings come 07/01 will be to improve the team.

I fully expect Smith and Shattenkirk to sign and it's the right decision to make. It makes the team better now and for the next 4-6 years.

McD - Shattenkirk
Skjei - Smith
???? - ADA

That's a solid and very mobile defence

I don't think there's any more question about Bear Gloves being ready to play than there is about Deangelo, yet I see you pencilled him into your lineup.

Pionk is a different thing.

Not true, on the RHD you would have Smith, DeAngelo, and a young guy.

My comment was in response to the signings of the young guys having no bearing on Shattenkirk. If we signed Shattenkirk then the defense would be comprised exclusively of veterans. That was my point.

Holden will be traded in the next two weeks. There is no spot for him

Teams that miss out on the free agent defenseman they want will start making offers

Draisaitl is interesting for sure. If the Rangers offered him 5 years at $9.8M per, they'd be looking at 2018 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the 2019 1st. That's pretty steep, and would he even sign it? IIRC, he had a lot of good things to say about Edmonton and how it compares to his home town.

The other thing is teams might be worried about how much of his game is a result of playing with McDavid.

These teams who have been picking super high lately, eventually they are going to need to remove cap hits to re-sign those picks. Like Chicago has gone through a couple times.

Start taking on some cap hits from them and grabbing some good picks/prospects along with what they have to move.

Amanda is 100% better than Cerny and it's not even close for me

Cerny came off as real weird to me

Cerny came off as a fan who couldnt believe he had the job he did.

you should listen to some of his podcasts where hes got the shackles off...hes got some real astute observations and insights.

i just dont like something about her...not sure if its her expressions on her face..the way she makes single word sentences and then makes the other person elaborate on it...its all...blah...

..."Goalies"....analyze them....go.

i mean thats basically what she said.

its fine..i dont dislike her...its not like i hate her guts or something...theres just something about her that annoys me. like Maloney...love the guy..but man he annoys the ever loving crap outta me..with him i can point to what it is though..i HATE the way he speaks...he uses transitions between every sentence and its ridiculous.."and in the mean time"..."and on the other hand"....etc.

The guys one of the best rangers announcers on the planet because hes legit telling it like it is...but man oh man does he bug me. With amanda its a lot harder for me to tell you what annoys me...i just know something about her annoys me.

Those picks are the cheapest we'd pay for a 1C tbh. I'd do it.

Eh, I really didn't have much of an issue with the Gordie interview. She really just let him talk. On the other hand, her player interviews are pretty brutal, especially the prospect ones. Asking them the same questions over and over in slightly different ways about how they feel about being drafted, coming to NY, the emotion of it all. To me, it's just laziness on the part of that whole coverage team. There's very little meat to her interviews, I feel.

You could pick anywhere from 12-31 (Probably the most extreme range the Rangers will end up picking...) for several years straight and never get a Draisaitl. It would be worth it, if he is that good.

I like Smith a lot, but I would much rather sign Shattenkirk if we're only getting one of them. He just brings more to the table.

Shattenkirk at 6m > Smith at 4m

Little more complicated than that. What if you get smith for three years and Shatty wants 7 years . Term is a disaster and the way we hand out ntc its crippling

Yeah but you're risking that contract and those picks on a guy to be the #1C, and he has yet to be a #1C.
