I don't either. I actually EXPECT them to trade for a first line center.

You have ton of cap space. You don't want to give up any assets when you have a ton of cap space. You have Nick Bonino staring at you and he'd be exactly what the doctor ordered. Or a Hanzel. I doubt highly we'll be trading for a center. I expect GMJG to get our #2 and possibly #4 centers in UFA.

And IMO, that would be the right move to do as no assets other than cash is required to shore things up down the middle.

Hanzal is gonna be massively overpaid, same with Bonino (coming off 2 SC raise value)

I disagree. Jumbo Joe is not better than Stepan right now. Now, if you tell me Joe is your third line center ... sure, I can buy that. Not a 1C to try and KO Pittsburgh. We need a team that's skilled and fast and can keep up with them.

Thornton is absolutely better than Step, even with a down year last year. He had 85 or 86 points the prior year.

Nick Bonino is not the answer to trading Derek Stepan. Please!

Based on your logic, you are basically saying Zib is the clear 1C. I don't see it yet ... maybe in a year or so, but not now.

Too much, was too easy. lol

Maybe I'm all alone on an island here, but I just don't think this "lets just have a bunch of decent guys" is the method to winning.

Penguins: Crosby, Malkin,
Blackhawks: Kane, Toews
RedWings: Zetterberg, Datsyuk
LA Kings: Kopitar, Carter

The Kings were the best "comparison" to winning without SUPER STAR talent but to be fair all their big players were on fire when they won. They are the anomaly to the formula.

I have been saying this for years. Depth is overrated. We will not win a cup without top line players.

Don't get me wrong, you need your depth guys and be able to roll 4 lines, but if your first line can't compete with the Penguins, Capitals, or Hawks ... then you're behind the 8 ball.

Well than we'll just disagree. I do think Bonino would be a good replacement to Stepan. Seeing he's been in Pittsburgh, he hasn't had to carry alot of scoring load. But he is skilled and gritty at same time and he can skate alot better than Steps could. He is good PP guy and PK. I've watched him alot. I have no doubt given the key role he'd be playing, he'd be no worse than a 45 point guy and possibly 10 points better.

I love the guy so maybe I'm biased. Love his game and think he'd be perfect here. I doubt also Gorton would break the bank for him.

And yes I said it earlier, alot of our success is based on Mika finally getting his **** together, no more ****ing excuses and playing like the guy he was supposed to be last year. He was our best fwd in the playoffs IMO and if he can play like that Mika, yes...he is a bonafide #1 center. Not in the Crosby,Getzlaf, Malkin, Tavares zip codes but I can see Zibs as a 60-65 point all around guy in the Giroux, Duchene,M Granlund, neighborhoods which is nothing to ashamed of nor sneezed at.

They will def command multi year deals so no from me too.. only reason I would be interested in Joe is because he might take a 1 year deal.

This is why i am advocating Thornton.

I really want Smith and Shatty back.

Trade Holden for a 2nd round pick+ after what Hamonic just got.

They have too much cap space not to have another move on the horizon

I'm quite honestly shocked they didn't make another move during the draft for more picks as well. Holden would have at least gotten you a pick or two

Hey, what is a Vegas Golden Knights member doing on the Rangers board?

Bad timing, I know. :)

I don't think they can move him until they get another defenseman. If they strike out on Smith and Shattenkirk then what?

A good 4th line is nice to have to win a cup. A good 1st line is a close to a must have to win a cup. When I say 1st line they do not even have to play on the 1st line just have 1st line type talent. I would trade 10 Oscars and 10 Hayes for Conor Mcdavid.
