Hawks are over the cap by 2.5m

Kruger's cap hit is 3m

If Kruger is taken, they have 500k cap space. Hossa on LTIR gives them the possibility to spend over the cap by 4.75m but that does not mean they generate cap space by using LTIR

Exactly. LTIR cap space is use it or lose it. Every day that you operate above the cap is a day you aren't banking cap space for the deadline.

Alright, well IF the Blackhawks have that $6 million in cap space that they MIGHT have between Kruger going to VGK and Hossa to LTIR, where else are they going to spend it?

Marleau, Thornton (coming off the ACL injury), Hanzal, Bonino.. that is a whole lot of meh and you would definitely have to commit to a few years on the latter two which obviously doesn't work for the Hawks with Panarin due for a new deal in the summer of 2019.

Nash, retained, with no commitments beyond this year, is a perfect fit for them. IF they have the cap space.

I would think he'd have to be the part of the deal if the Rangers are going to eat 50%. They'd probably rather deal a prospect than a cheap roster player.
