not a fan at all of giving up an asset to just not lose an asset...only to lose another asset altogether. though i guess id lose an asset to have a toxic contract taken AS the asset they take...

it all depends on the asset you are protecting. it doesn't make sense for us in the current situation, but if brady skjei was eligible to be picked i have a hard time believing that you would rather lose him for nothing then to give up a pick to protect him and lose a 4th liner instead.

also I am jealous Vegas is potentially getting Gusev's rights

If he actually comes to the NHL, he could be something special

If the Rangers can get a good return on Nash, I could care less where he goes

If you can get the Hawks to give you a great package for a retained Nash, you do it

Who cares if it's "helping" them out

Yea lets help them out and retain a good chunk of change for them. Love it.

Fantasy Land

I mean if it would help not only clear up some cap space for yourself and land a better piece coming back I don't see why not.

Personally, I don't think Nash goes anywhere, but don't mistake "fantasy land" with "I really don't want this to happen."

Yea lets keep him and let him walk next July and lose him for nothing.. Instead of taking advantage of a good opportunity to get young players/prospects/picks that we desperately need?

And we wouldn't be helping them out by retaining a good chunk of change. You take advantage of the cap space you have with JT, Hayes, Skjei, Buch and Vesey on their bridge and ELC deals, and then you increase the package you get in return.

I'm not sure how you don't see this as anything other than a perfect scenario.

If VGK gets Theodore, I would pay a lot to get him. Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for them to move him, though.

I dont care if we move Nash. But people are ready to eat so much of his salary. We are already eating some of Girardi's salary. And to be honest I am not impressed with Chicago's system, certainly not enough to retain any money on Nash.

DeBrincat is a nice piece. Or someone more battle tested like Schmaltz.

I'm not advocating this, but it's not like Chicago couldn't put together a good package for a 50% retained Nash.

We have money to eat for this upcoming year with JT and Hayes on their bridge deals and Skjei, Buch and Vesey still on their ELC's.

Those are 5 very important players that are going to produce for very cheap.

Schmaltz would be a get and a half for us.

That is good, very good. The Stars opening up that cap space should put them in the running for Stepan. They need to step their **** up if they plan on getting back in the playoffs in the Central again.

Yeah because what they need is a $6.5M center to play behind Seguin and Spezza, not a winger or improvement on the blue line. C'mon.

Teams trading for Nash would be contenders. Contenders tend to be near the cap. Eating some of his salary makes him more viable.

If he's not traded before the season starts, he most likely won't be traded.... unless the upcoming NYR season is a complete failure.

Theodore is not enough to lay off Vat and Manson and take Stoner. And help out a rival. And I say that as a big Theodore fan. This one smells.

Yeah was just thinking about this too. Maybe Vegas was afraid they could protect "all" Ds and let them pick a forward? I think it's pretty even steven between Theodore and like a Silfverberg. Would have required some vets waiving NMCs though.

I don't see what Girardi's salary has to do with anything?

If they keep Nash, they'd be eating G's salary while paying Nash's in full. Move him with money retained and you're saving cash.

DeBrincat would be a very nice piece to bring back and he isn't too far off from being NHL ready IMO.

Not for nothing, but Seguin played a **** load of wing last year and Spezza is only signed through the end of the 17-18 season.

Zuccarello makes more sense if we're talking Dallas though.

Handled this whole situation masterfully.

Yeah, I thought he would screw up when there were talk about 8 goalies lol, was probably just a smokescreen.

Let's see though, getting a good team is most important. Picks are needed too, but it's secondary they are way overrated at this place.
