Yeah because what they need is a $6.5M center to play behind Seguin and Spezza, not a winger or improvement on the blue line. C'mon.

And the Habs desperately need a center, yet they traded their most valuable asset for a winger, because Drouin was as good as it was going to get for them.

Similiar to Dallas, Stepan might be as good as it is going to get for them, especially in a very weak UFA year.

So one of the Hawks beat writers is saying Kruger won't be going to Vegas. Wanna bet that Hossa and Kruger go to Arizona to get over the cap floor? :shakehead

Or they could trade for Methot or Neal and address an actual position of need. What Montreal does isn't relevant.

Yeah was just thinking about this too. Maybe Vegas was afraid they could protect "all" Ds and let them pick a forward? I think it's pretty even steven between Theodore and like a Silfverberg. Would have required some vets waiving NMCs though.

Right. And you also have to remember that Vegas is still getting a player from ANA. So the calculus isn't Theodore or Manson; it's Theodore + [X] or Manson. Depending on who [X] is, that may still be quite the haul.

Add 2.7 mil and we could be paying Crosby.

:shakehead

Why o why didn't they tell him to hit the road instead of paying him that much money.

A rhetorical question of course.

I dont care if we move Nash. But people are ready to eat so much of his salary. We are already eating some of Girardi's salary. And to be honest I am not impressed with Chicago's system, certainly not enough to retain any money on Nash.

Nash @ 50% saves us up to 3.9 mil in cap space, depending on the return. The other 3.9 mil is only for this year and we likely won't need that space this year. We will need it next summer though, when Miller, Hayes, Skjei and Vesey will all need new contracts, so not spending that 3.9 mil on a new player this summer is probably a good idea.

There are few, if any, teams that can take on Nash's full cap hit. We should take advantage of our cap position and get the maximum return we can for Nash.

I'd only be in favor of dealing our 1st if...

It means ridding ourselves of Staal
It means having LVGK pick Tanner Glass

and

We get a 1st back in a Rick Nash/Stepan deal.

Who would be left that the Rangers would want to trade for? Not Manson, Vatanen, Dumba etc.
