I was of the opinion that Lindberg had a bit more offense in him and could handle the 3C role.

Makes trading Stepan/Hayes for a D a lot tougher. Would have to sign someone like Thornton then.

McPhee is basically building a cheap tank roster while amassing picks.

The NHLs attempt to make the team more competitive blew up in their face. Passing on so much talent. McPhee buys himself the longest leash possible.

Dude what the hell. honestly. what is McPhee doing.

He had two choices:
1)build a decent team that might have had a shot at the playoffs

2) have a bunch of 1sts in a mediocre draft

Someone has a lot of confidence in his scouting.

Dude was in such a powerful position...smh same old George 'Forsberg for Erat' McPhee

If we promote Nieves or Hrivik, we're likely saving under $1M in cap space that would have gone to Oscar. Both of them had a trial run at the NHL level last year. This is the best chance they'll get at playing at the NHL level.

I imagine Nieves will be given the opportunity to win the 4C spot. It's been said many times before, but apparently AV likes him, so I assume he will be given a shot

Hrivik would be serviceable in that position, but I have my doubts he signs with the team again

I thought Nieves was pretty good when healthy last season, and the team clearly likes him. I think there will be a few fringe fourth liners brought in to complete with him, but I bet the team hopes he wins the spot.

Nieves is one of the guys currently at Prentiss's training camp. He might push for the 4th line center job--at least if he can stay healthy.

Sucks to lose Oscar. I really liked him. I really like all of Fast, Raanta and Grabner too. We were going to lose one of them.

nieves will be the 4th line center and then I can't wait to hear joe say 'Sam those aren't boos, those are boos'

So, without Lindberg, we're looking at signing a 4th line center.

Options? Brian Boyle would be nice to return. Not seeing much else in UFA. Would have to potentially trade for one or Nieves will be gifted the spot.

Not if you've got a younger center coming back in the same/another deal.

Truth. Strome + 7th OA + Prospect for Stepan + Raanta + Nieves and Hrivik hopefully pushing for spots with Glass gone (remember Fast is out for 6 months) means that losing Lindberg, while it sucks, is nothing more than losing a 3rd line center.

If Stepan is traded though, I am hoping sign a short stopgap like Hanzal
