I know once you've made up your mind, it's tough to sway your opinion, but Stepan was our 3rd leading scorer still and that was having the WORST shooting% of his career. Still had the best goal metrics on the team, drove possession, all situations player. Don't let a horrible shooting% make you think he played poorly. His playoffs weren't good, but he still wasn't our biggest problem. Hayes and Miller had vanishing acts and Staal-Holden was an abomination. Much bigger fish to fry.

However, if you can set yourself up for a good future move like the Brass trade, I'm up for it. I just don't want people knocking Stepan as if he's some bum.

Look at who he was playing with most of the time. 2 best Rangers forwards carried him and if I remember correctly, numbers agree. He was meh this season.

I don't judge a trade based on us re-signing the newly acquired player or not. The trade should be judged solely on what happens on the day of the trade (Unless there are conditional picks involved, of course)

That seems incredibly short-sighted, but to each his own.

I think his on-ice numbers were better than Zuccarello and Nash, who he played with a lot. I think Silverfish posted the graphs.

He's been our best goal metric player for his entire career.

Edit: and just for the record, his GF% is higher away from Kreider/Zucc/Nash then they are away from Stepan.

If Vegas wants Lindberg or Fast they can have them. That's really an extremely marginal loss compared to what some other teams could lose. Such an obsession with pretty good homegrown 4th liners.

After postseason and WCH he had, I disagree that Lindberg is just 4th liner.

A lot of Stepan's nice fancystats last year came as a result of playing with Kreider, who is establishing himself as one of the league's best shot attempt drivers, so, hard to hold that against Stepan.

Kreider is this team's best forward, career year (thus far) last season.

Maybe we just need more GRIT and JAM?

He was on an AHL deal when he was with the Whale. The Rangers made a conscious decision to not sign him. He signed an ELC with Columbus after the year. An ELC. The Rangers didn't even want to give him an ELC.

You don't think the 'analytics people' at FLA had anything to do with JAM being signed to a near league minimum deal with the Fancycats? I'd disagree.

I dont think JAM was some hidden secret that computer guys found in any way shape or form. I think he was very well known by scouts in the NHL and AHL. A guy that has kept plugging away and started putting things together over the years. He played well in Tampa after Stamkos injury and gained confidence in his NHL game. Last year he made Florida and showed the maturation of his game. He always showed some flashes and played well at lower levels but thankfully the computer guys found him (nobody else knew about him) so he could thrive last year in Florida lol :D

Yeah. There was such a major bidding war for him, that the Panthers had to overpay huge at $750K a year :amazed:

The team that had him prior, Tampa Bay, obviously knew of his skills, but they were too afraid to outbid Florida. $800K a little too rich for their taste.

Come on, Nick, read between the lines.

Hypothetical here but if the NYR ever did get OEL and AV didn't go Ekman-Larsson-McDonagh that may be the final straw for me if I was Gorton and I would can him.
