I have had it. Journalists and reporters are drumming up every deadline as some big event and nothing ever happens. It's like one of those cheap casinos that offers a free luxurious buffet if your gaming balance card registers a $50 loss at the end of the night and all you get are make your own omelettes, garden salads, and Walmart brand jello that tastes like cough syrup.

mmm cough syrup flavored jello

Again... Rangers aren't in a position where they HAVE to trade him. They aren't actively shopping him, but just listening to offers. The offer has to be good enough to part ways with the team's 1st line center who puts up 55 points and is signed for 4 more years at a relatively good AAV.

WOW 55 points, why aren't teams lining up to pay out the wazoo for that kind of production????

I am right there with you! especially with the expansion they've been ramping it up saying teams are fighting to get expansion compliant and every team thinks vegas is going to take their bad contract

It's definitely not a relatively good AAV. Its a bit overpaid..at best is average.

Great, 55 points...Strome has potential to put up a lot more than that and is dynamic offensive player, something we haven't had since....Jagr? Oh and he's 20...we could potentially lock him up for 9 years, his prime years. Is Stepan going to keep getting better? I doubt it, when is he going decline? Anyones guess.

So... Uncertainty. Great

We're gonna trade ****ing Marek Hrivik at 2:48PM for a 5th round pick.

That would be a pretty good deal considering management has no interest in Hrivik and he has cleared waivers multiple times.

I'm just hoping they deal Raanta for a good return. That's all I expect out of today. I expect Stepan only gets moved for a great offer, much like Nash was last offseason.

Agreed 1000000 percent. Stepan is what he is at this point and we are not winning a Cup with him with the teams top center. We'll be a perennial playoff contender like always, but that is just not good enough anymore.

It is time to go in a new direction.

I'll take my chances with a player that has the potential to be a franchise center all day long as opposed to being one and done again next year, at best.

I'm not patient about this.

Team needs big changes. One or two moves here or there is not enough. This team needs to be completely remade, otherwise you'll see the same thing as last season. Are we going to get five moves in July? No, so gotta make some now while you have the chance.

Two of the most active trading days come in the next two weeks. Draft day and July 1st. Things will happen. Nothing has to happen today for the Rangers.

It's more than Krejci, Bergeron, MacKinnon, Couture, Kopitar, Barkov, Sedin, Spezza, Stastny, Thornton and Duchene had

I guess those are awful and need to be traded as well.

Management likes Hrivik. He did a lot of good for Rangers, was great player for Hartford. He is NHL player, he showed it this year. They would love to re-sign him but he probably signs elsewhere. He got some interest from NHl teams.

...Yes. Just like the draft. Guess we shouldn't even participate in that we had it your way since....uncertainty.

Guess we shouldnt sign UFAs since you know...uncertainty how they will turn out.

You don't have to give up a first line player to get those draft picks every year. They are handed out.

Giving up Stepan is not a necessity. I keep coming back to this. We aren't in a position like 2015 where we HAD to trade Hagelin. This is a situation where Gorton is merely listening to offers, instead of actively shopping him.

I would love to get OEL on this team and I would pay him oodles of money to stay long term...

Trying to think of other teams that we could trade with. What do we think of Eberle as the main return for Stepan? God knows we could use another scoring winger but that does leave us short in the middle unless we're moving Miller back there.

My other idea from Edmonton (and I know it's less than likely) is Draisaitl. How much do we need to add to pry him out of Edmonton? Stepan, 1st round pick, Graves and another prospect? Gives Edmonton a 2nd line center with playoff experience to help the young leaders they have. Then we open up the check book for Leon. 7 years, 7+ per.

Kreider-Zib-Draisaitl
Buchnevich-Miller-Zucc
Vesey-Hayes-Nash
Grabner-Lindberg-Fast (or add Jensen to this line if we lose one to the Expansion Draft)

God damn it Derek. Just do better so we can stop trying to trade you.

If we don't trade Step and it's likely that we won't given the time limit of July 1st, the expectation and level of scrutiny on him is going to be sooooo high next year.

BREAKING: The Stars have signed defenseman Ludwig Bystrom to a one-year, two-way contract.

I dont think Step was in his best shape last season. Whether he is a Ranger or not I wouldn't be surprised if he gets himself in better shape for next season.

I guess those are awful and need to be traded as well.

Bergeron played the entire season with a relatively serious injury, but still had the best Corsi in the league and was 3rd in SOG.

Krejci and Spezza are 2nd line centers

Barkov and Statsny were in and out of the lineup all season long with injuries.

Kopitar had a horrendous year for sure, luckily the Kings also have Carter putting up elite numbers, but he's a near lock for 70 points while playing Selke level defense, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Duchene sucks and MacKinnon is 21 years old, put in a horrendous situation that not many players would be able to thrive in.

Sedin and Thornton are on their last legs in this league but have both had HOF careers. C'mon.

It's really hard for me to sympathize with the blanket absolute arguments that a team needs X Y and Z to win a cup. I've seen every single argument since I got here.

Team can't win a cup with a goalie making more than X dollars

Team can't win a cup without a franchise center

Team can't win a cup in playoff seeds 6-8

Team can't win a cup without a PP QB

Team needs a core age 25-28 to win a cup

Winning the cup is a probabilistic, not deterministic outcome. Better teams have a better chance of winning, with some strategic considerations and player quality mattering marginally more than others. But to suggest that a quality team can't win a cup just because Hank is old or Stepan isn't Erik Lindros is silly.

I dont think Step was in his best shape last season. Whether he is a Ranger or not I think he will get himself in better shape for next season.

I think if Step just went for the Chris Kreider training regiment this summer and put in the full 3 months of bulking up and getting absolutely ripped jump out of the pool, Marty St.Louis Calves, Michael Grabner shoulders, he could easily hit 70 points.
