Let's assume we trade our 1st for them to take Staal (No retention) and Holden as the expansion draft pick... This is what our team would look like without moving Stepan:

Nash-Stepan-Zuccarello
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Miller-Hayes-Vesey
Fast-Lindberg-Grabner

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Graves-Bereglazov

Lundqvist
Raanta

The total rebuild camp would hate this but if we sign a vet LD for cheap of Graves and Pinok aren't ready, I could support this. Losing the 1st sucks though.

Yeah. There was such a major bidding war for him, that the Panthers had to overpay huge at $750K a year :amazed:

The team that had him prior, Tampa Bay, obviously knew of his skills, but they were too afraid to outbid Florida. $800K a little too rich for their taste.

Come on, Nick, read between the lines.

Don't need to read between the lines. I have followed JAM for years in one way or another. I noticed his improvement last season watching him play on TB not via a computer. If you want to believe computer guys "found" him go for it. I stand by my statement that he wasn't a secret. That he was very well known. Im happy that he had a strong season. I hope it was just the start for him and wish him much success.

I just have to. Sorry. Based on what we discussed the last 48 hours, I came up with this:

Stepan to Arizona for Keller + 7 OA
Staal + 21st OA to Vegas for the expansion draft
Sign Shattenkirk 7x6m
Sign Smith 4x4m
Raanta to Calgary for 16th OA
Nash (50%) to San Jose for 19th OA and Bergman
Sign Jordan Weal
Sign Matt O'Connor

7th OA: Draft Timothy Liljegren
16th OA: Draft Erik Brannstrom
19th OA: Draft Klim Kostin

Line-up:
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Miller-Keller-Zuccarello
Vesey-Hayes-Weal
Grabner-Lindberg-Fast

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Holden-Bereglazov
Bergman

Lundqvist
O'Connor

There... I am going to day-dream about this for a while before I wake up and see the nightmare of Staal still being on this team ;)

Is that the package you realistically expect for Stepan or are you just having fun with it? Genuine question.

He was on an AHL deal when he was with the Whale. The Rangers made a conscious decision to not sign him. He signed an ELC with Columbus after the year. An ELC. The Rangers didn't even want to give him an ELC.

You don't think the 'analytics people' at FLA had anything to do with JAM being signed to a near league minimum deal with the Fancycats? I'd disagree.

I'mn like 99% sure the Rangers wanted him back and he chose to leave.

I dont think JAM was some hidden secret that computer guys found in any way shape or form. I think he was very well known by scouts in the NHL and AHL. A guy that has kept plugging away and started putting things together over the years. He played well in Tampa after Stamkos injury and gained confidence in his NHL game. Last year he made Florida and showed the maturation of his game. He always showed some flashes and played well at lower levels but thankfully the computer guys found him (nobody else knew about him) so he could thrive last year in Florida lol :D

JAM passed the eye test a long time ago IMO. We missed one there.

WOW...... Once again, Stepan is NOT a star player. What do you really think he is worth??????? ARZ would absolutely laugh at a proposal like that and you're here saying no

Again... Rangers aren't in a position where they HAVE to trade him. They aren't actively shopping him, but just listening to offers. The offer has to be good enough to part ways with the team's 1st line center who puts up 55 points and is signed for 4 more years at a relatively good AAV.

More than you think he is.

Look at trades for comparable centers in the past. he isn't the one off the mark here.

He's been our best goal metric player for his entire career.

Edit: and just for the record, his GF% is higher away from Kreider/Zucc/Nash then they are away from Stepan.

Career GF% or last season GF%? Stepan is great player just did not look that good in my eyes last season.

My god. Do people even read the whole post? I'm done. **** it.

Next time I will start the message with a bold text, size 4 and red, like this.

I just have to. Sorry. Based on what we discussed the last 48 hours, I came up with this:

I have had it. Journalists and reporters are drumming up every deadline as some big event and nothing ever happens. It's like one of those cheap casinos that offers a free luxurious buffet if your gaming balance card registers a $50 loss at the end of the night and all you get are make your own omelettes, garden salads, and Walmart brand jello that tastes like cough syrup.

It's only 1230 and no one else has mad a move yet either. Just be patient people.

I'm not patient about this.

Team needs big changes. One or two moves here or there is not enough. This team needs to be completely remade, otherwise you'll see the same thing as last season. Are we going to get five moves in July? No, so gotta make some now while you have the chance.
