When the computer-boys find you a 30 goal scorer on a $750K deal, but your GM is an 'old-school' guy.

RH shot, PP threat. Would be very interested depending on the price. Wish we could have just kept him when he was in the org (and I did like him way back when), but he would still be a good addition today. Probably won't score 30 again, but 20-20 is likely.

I cant really blame that one Zona fan who is horrified to trade Strome or Dvorak for Stepan. I mean, their division is awful but is Stepan really going to put them over the hump into playoff contention? The Rangers have had great success with him as their 1c, but I also maintain a true bonafide elite center is the one thing that has held this team back from being a perennial contender to being a Stanley Cup champion.

I'd obviously be over the moon for Strome but I'm not sure how realistic that is. I'll take Perlini and the 7th overall pick and call it a day. Add Raanta and then they can throw in Fischer or Garland.

I just have to. Sorry. Based on what we discussed the last 48 hours, I came up with this:

Stepan to Arizona for Keller + 7 OA
Staal + 21st OA to Vegas for the expansion draft
Sign Shattenkirk 7x6m
Sign Smith 4x4m
Raanta to Calgary for 16th OA
Nash (50%) to San Jose for 19th OA and Bergman
Sign Jordan Weal
Sign Matt O'Connor

7th OA: Draft Timothy Liljegren
16th OA: Draft Erik Brannstrom
19th OA: Draft Klim Kostin

Line-up:
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Miller-Keller-Zuccarello
Vesey-Hayes-Weal
Grabner-Lindberg-Fast

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Holden-Bereglazov
Bergman

Lundqvist
O'Connor

There... I am going to day-dream about this for a while before I wake up and see the nightmare of Staal still being on this team ;)

I think Murphy, 7 and Fischer is the bare minimum of what I'd consider not terrible.

Its not great, but I don't loathe it either.

That's a career year for JAM. Don't want to buy high like that.

He is a small guy that in a normal year will likely be 20-20.

No way we get Keller AND the 7th OA for Dub Step. You have a better chance at AV losing the gum next year.

Yeah, but how likely is he to repeat his 30-goal success?

30g? Not very likely, that's hard to do. 20-25g? I'd say likely, and at $750K? Yeah, I'd take it.

JAM has done nothing but put up points at the levels he's played at. He's been held back because of his size. Teams are slowly but surely starting to realize that your height doesn't really matter if you can put up points.

It's funny how the majority of people here (Not saying you were among them, FYI) were crying for weeks after we gave up Duclair, and 2 years later it seems as if nobody wants him back on the team

That was the one trade I wasn't mad about, because I expected that Yandle would be here for a long time. He wasn't, so it ended up being a net loss IMO.

I don't mind trading prospect or picks if the player we are getting will give us a lot of quality years. What I do mind in trading prospects or picks, especially when we have them in limited supply, for players who will only be around for 1 or 2 years. That's just poor asset management. If you are going to make deals like that, you better have a farm system that can handle the loss and be close enough to winning a cup that it will put you over the top.

Don't want to pop the bubble of your day-dream but who is Vegas taking in the ED? Unless you mean that we throw our 1st round pick to entice Vegas taking Staal over Lindberg, Grabner or Fast.

And the one player we are not getting from Zona is Keller. Replace the Stepan return with Perlini and the 7th OA. Keller is no dice.

LOL the computer guys? I think many people especially Ranger fans and Hartford fans knew Jonathan had some real offensive talent but some size/defense concerns. Just like we knew about Paps. JM was here 5 or 6 years ago. We might have kept him if contractually we were allowed when he led the Whale.

I rather keep Stepan then, but I was just putting it out there to summarize the stuff we have discussed

I don't judge a trade based on us re-signing the newly acquired player or not. The trade should be judged solely on what happens on the day of the trade (Unless there are conditional picks involved, of course)

If ARI is sending me Perlini and the 7th I tell Chayka to tank another year and I walk. At that point I keep Stepan and pray he works his tail off this summer and leads us through the PO next year.

I guess reading is hard. Just summarizing what was discussed

He was on an AHL deal when he was with the Whale. The Rangers made a conscious decision to not sign him. He signed an ELC with Columbus after the year. An ELC. The Rangers didn't even want to give him an ELC.

You don't think the 'analytics people' at FLA had anything to do with JAM being signed to a near league minimum deal with the Fancycats? I'd disagree.
