Would be interesting to see how the Rangers construct their center depth if they trade Stepan and then not get a center back or something.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buch
Nash-Miller-Zucc
Vesey-Hayes-Grabner
Puempel-Lindberg-Fast

Hoping Holden goes in the expansion draft instead of Fast or Lindberg.

He's not starting level anymore?

He just outplayed Carey Price and then won a gold medal. I think he can still start...

Also got outplayed by Craig Anderson. World Championship gold medal is great for Sweden, means nothing for us. This has been two years in a row with Hank. This year Raanta was much better than him. I know he's a Rangers icon, so people don't want to insult him, but is he even our best goalie anymore?

Someone else mentioned it before, but I'm actually a bit worried that Connor Murphy would be coming back as the center piece. He's a good player, but hardly a needle mover.

Murphy+23 would not be a good trade.

If so, would you change the description below your name to buy out Gorton?

I like Trxjw's previous suggestion of Stepan, Raanta, and #21 for Strome, #7 and #35

I'd be amenable to removing Raanta & the #35 for simplicity, though. Keep it Stepan and #21 for Strome and #7.

Alternatively, I'd add Raanta on our side, but swap Strome for Dvorak. Stepan, Raanta, and #21 for Dvorak and #35[/QUOTE]

So the Rangers give up the best player in the deal and the higher pick?

How does that make any sense? I like Dvo a ton, but thats horrible.

Meant #7 not 35 :)

Did the taste of vomit leave your mouth already? I can still taste it fresh as can be as if it was yesterday that Staal just fell on top of Hank in the crease and Staal-Holden conceded more goals, chances, and puck possession that anything I have ever seen.

When Bobby McKenzie says something you gotta listen but idk I just can't see Stepan getting moved

Brooks, BobM, Friedman, everyone have Gorts shopping him around. Will he get moved? I think the odds for that is low.

Dvorak, #7 for Stepan and Holden
Raanta, #21 for #16 and another smaller Piece
Miller+ for Galchenyuk
Sign Radulov, Smith and Shatty
Nash dealt at the TDL if team falls apart
I simply have no idea what to do with Marc Staal. Ideally we send him in a package for Evander Kane or the center in Florida with the long term deal, but fat chance...
We could then trade some fwd asset for futures or Young D.

Someone convince me why I should like Strome. I think he's overrated as **** and his numbers are a product of being a giant among boys.

Depends what you are hoping for. Rebuild and a Strome plus package from like AZ brings a lot of youth to NY

Want Duclair back ? His values low right now

Catching up on the Stepan rumor, Yotes fans seem adamant that they don't want to give up any of their young centers for Stepan, i don't know if Chayka feels the same but let's say so for arguments sake.

What other main pieces are there?
#7, would be a good start value wise but it doesn't really fit what NYR needs imo.
Murphy? I think he's just pretty bad, want no part of him.
Then we have like the several good pieces but no real main piece package.

Would something like Rieder + DeAngelo/Wood + pick (#23? 2nd rounder?) be something you're OK with?

I'm on the cusp here, i like Rieder, he's really good and the young RHDs would obviously be a good get for us, but we're trading a 1C here so i'm not sure how i'd feel.

Your thoughts?

Honestly no point in trading Stepan if you can't get pretty close to what you want.

Rangers shouldn't have to settle for less to move Stepan. He doesn't have to get moved.

I think this almost proves that a deal with Arizona would involve one of their young forwards (+pick?). I mean, they have nothing else that I would value higher than trading Stepan. Because they are not moving OEL or Chychrun for Stepan.

I think it would take Strome/Dvorak + for Gorton to pull the trigger too, i'm just trying to be creative to find a deal which both fanbases are atleast somewhat OK with :)

It's definitely not an easy task though and it looks like one fanbase will be puking if a deal goes down honestly.

I think a deal around Rieder + DeAngelo/Wood is the closest to a non puking deal, not sure what else needs to be added though.

I think RangerBoy have become lazy/old? It's 6:37am in NY and still no rumor update.

I am the leader of the rebuilding/transition to a younger team faction. It's time. It's not tanking on purpose. Keep the players brought into the team in 16-17. Zibanejad. Buchnevich. Vesey. Keep Skjei. Lundqvist stays. The rest of them can go. Vesey won't get mad if Hayes is traded. He is roommates with Skjei. Trade some players this summer. Trading deadline 2018. Trade some players this time next June. The Rangers begin a new era. McDonagh and Zuccarello will be free agents in two seasons. Goodbye. I am not paying a 30 year old McDonagh and a 32 year old Zuccarello. Get back young roster players/top prospects and #1 picks. Shestyorkin will come over in two years. The main part of Girardi's buyout will be off the books in three seasons. The last 3 seasons are $1.11M Trade Marc Staal for shorter term bad contracts like Toronto did. Bad money on the Rangers books. They aren't winning now. The bad money will be off the books by the time the Rangers are legit contenders again. Draft and acquire young D. Brooks wrote the Rangers want a more mobile D. Do what the Ducks did. They took a D in one of the first two rounds for like 4-5 years in a row. It's time for significant changes.

I'm right behind you on that train, bud. This current core, as much and as hard as they tried, did not win. Time to move on; cut the cord. This team as currently constituted isn't winning anything. Time to build the next generation New York Rangers. The name on the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back of the jersey. Don't allow a players or two to hold the organizatition hostage in trying to win something that isn't going to happen.

Thing is, is Vigneault the right coach to lead a younger roster? I don't think so. He's loath to play the younger players the amount of time they should (have earned).

So we're trading McDonagh, Stepan, Zuccarello, and Nash too now. Anyone over 25 is gone. If they don't know which Pokemon Greninja is, they're too old for this rebuild.

This is a bit dramatic and disingenuous. You're combining the entire evolution of this thread since the Ottawa series. People seem to have abandoned the McDonagh idea, Zuccarello was fought hard, Nash just makes sense because of the contract and stepan is resisted strongly. Yeah, these are the older guys but it's more about changing the core.

The stepan defenders are funny, attack his playoffs or faceoffs and it's heard as his hairline. I wonder if that's an issue with getzlaf on the ducks board.

I'm not concerned with what other fanbases think. Remember, the Coyotes were not supposed to have any interest in Stepan, according to their fanbase. Again, Brass brought back Zib and a 2nd, and Zib is better than anything the Coyotes have to offer, and Stepan, is better than Brassard. Stepan is a valuable asset. Gorton does not have to move Stepan; he is simply looking to maximize the value of his asset. You get the #7 pick for starters, and either you get Glass of Petersson as Step's replacement, or you take Makar.. Me, I want the opportunity to take one of the centers, and get pieces to flip them for Dumba.
