How do you guys like Myers out of Winnipeg? Can't imagine he'd cost much considering they're currently in the 8 skaters model (protecting Byfuglien, Trouba, Enstrom, Myers)

First of all, given his health status -- it's of course a health call primary. But let's say the docs look at him and gives green light, I would definitely be interested.

Tyler Myers is a very flawed defensemen. The same crew that marveled about him being a Norris Candidate his rookie year have now turned and underrates him a bit (of course conditional on him being able to recover his health). He has some offensive tools for sure. His reach is of course great. He can take away a lot of ice defensively. After the trade to Winnipeg he did a lot better than in the complete mess Buffalo was his last years there. Which is not surprising given how flawed Ds often is exposed on bad teams.

Next to McD I think someone like him would have potential to play well.

First and foremost though, getting RDs right now is extremely hard. We have nobody. Who can we get?

Elliotte Friedman said the Rangers had something going on with Arizona for Stepan last year but something had to happen but it didn't happen.

In terms of assets/players that fit what we'd be looking to replace Stepan with, I actually think Arizona is the best Stepan match. Don't think Domi would be moved, but Dylan Strome is an interesting starting point.

I think if Gorton strikes out on a home run trade for Stepan, next best scenario is moving the first to try and move Staal and/or Nash, or moving Miller/Hayes straight up for a similar-aged defenseman. I would imagine Miller has a lot of value considering how good he was during the regular season, and the Rangers have Vesey, Buchnevich on the wings with some depth with the Puempel re-signing and Gropp on the way. Would make sense.

If you could convince me the Rangers can work a trade involving Staal with salary retention + 21 for a few minor assets (prospects and/or draft picks), and then move Miller/Hayes straight up for a 21-25-year old D, I think that puts the Rangers in business just as much. If Klein does in fact retire, might open up enough cap room to make a run at Shattenkirk, pending he takes a slight discount ($6 million - $6.25 million per season for an extra year).

Holden lost us 2 playoff games.

He can be blamed for the MTL tying goal bc he broke his own stick over the MTL player in front but then the Habs got a fortunate bounce with it going in off him. His playoff wasn't great but he was paired with Marc ****** Staal . Really? What did some expect? He isn't Ryan McDonagh where he can carry Staal.

I find it kind of funny how some fans of teams that never win act like their teams players are far so superior to ours.

its truly amazing. our coach sucks. our players suck, young guys like vesey and skjei way overrated. yet one of the winningest playoff teams in the last 5 or 6 years.

Trouba isn't a possibility for Stepan unless there are more pieces involved, or if there's another team involved. They have Scheifele and Little down the middle already.

Carolina has Faulk, but they're in the division.

Who else has a proven top-pairing D up for grabs and needs a center?

Roster freeze Saturday at 3. Teams can only deal with Vegas from then until the end of the expansion draft. Then everything is opened back up leading up to the draft.

July 1st is when Stepan's NTC kicks in, so if they're going to trade him, you'd assume it would be in the next 2 weeks.

thanks

Its because we have the best fans and pizza lol. Only logical explanation :)

Nicky- Hm, he certainly had Talbot and our ask? What more could you ask for? He certainly had Hagelin being the odd man out.

Take my word for it, he gets more info from our organization than anyone else. AINEC.

Klingberg might interest me but I don't think Dallas is too interested in Stepan.

That didn't stop Stevie Y from sending a future star winger to an division MTL.

They did with Minnesota too.

I am like 85% positive any Stepan deal last summer hinged on the availability of Stamkos

People were saying the Rangers were going to make a hard push for Stamkos in FA. The Brassard deal was already in place, they were just waiting for the date to hit so the team could pay him his bonus.

It's clear Stepan was being shopped. I saw a rumor that Stepan to the Wild for Dumba and Coyle was on the table, but the Rangers pulled out last summer

Stamkos decided to re-sign with the Lightning out of nowhere, and obviously they couldn't trade Stepan with no replacement coming in via Stamkos, so the rumors died down, and any potentially talks with other teams stopped

How about when he decided to pinch in game 2 round 2 that led to the 2 on 1 and the finisher? That was a brain dead move by him and lost us the game. Stop blaming Marc Staal for Holden's short comings

Because if you read it it comes off as his opinion. At no point does he say "NYR not trading Stepan unless a top RD coming back", he says WOULD NOT MAKE DEAL. That's not a report, that's an opinion.

Pretty simple if you just read it.

Hehe, no. It's entirely unclear if it's an opinion or report going by the wording.

By that logic, he also won us 2 playoff games by scoring a goal.

and he was playing with probably our worst dman. at least holden contributed 2 goals. the second which should have put away the sens early in game 5 by tearing out their hearts instead they got that gift of a goal to make it a game again.
