Yeah, he listed three defensemen who might be a healthy scratch for the playoffs. None of them Klein.

Stepan for a defenseman makes me nervous. Unless it's a Trouba which I doubt. Plus, how much better would we be trading Step for a D?

Also giving Brendan Smith market value? I am not too thrilled about that. 4.5M for 4-5 years for a #4 is not smart IMO.

listening to some hockey talk radio and what most feel step is worth on here and what they feel he's worth are at completely two opposite ends. Mostly because of his 6 plus million coming to him annualy

Yeah I like Smith, and he is usually a good possession player but he doesn't provide any offense, or any particularly great puck moving. It'd be a waste to spend 4M+ on him for 4-5 years.

I know the report is out there that Fisher "might" retire, but I have it from someone with ties to Fisher that going back last summer he was leaning towards this past year being his last. He wants to be w his family more. Having said that I think dushene fits better for them, but what do I know?

The Rangers would likely have to eat some of the 8.5M cap hit to make it more palatable to an acquiring team (or maybe to improve the return).
I doubt a Lundqvist trade will ever happen, but I definitely listen. By the time this team is ready to win a Cup, he'll be past his prime. He's not the elite goaltender he used to be; he can't carry the team by himself. A team that is a goalie away from winning a Cup, and/or a team that wants to make a big run for it in the next 1-2 years might be intrigued. Of course, Lundqvist would have to agree to go; tho with a real chance to win a Cup in the next couple years and his NHL career winding down (may want to finish his playing career at home in Sweden), he might be amenable to it.
yeah it was more reasoning why Brooks wouldn't be considering shattenkirk as part of his logic behind that statement, not that I think he has some super inside goods right now
He's really fallen off in recent years. I really don't pay much mind to him anymore.
