We basically have a 3rd D slot open for ED. Not much sense in protecting Holden. Now is the time to pounce on a young RHD from a team that needs to protect 4 D, like Anaheim.

We can spin the theory that management is deluded. Staal is still slotted as the 2nd LHD. They're conspiring with Klein to make up the fake retirement story to prevent LV from taking him. They're buying out Girardi and using the ED slot for Holden so they can keep Staal-Holden intact, Skjei-Smith as the 3rd pairing, McDonagh-Klein as the top pairing.

Stepan is being super underrated on this site

If Gorton does decide to trade Step, can't wait for whatever him to rake whatever team he trades Step to over the coals and fleece the other team, and see the chaos on this site ensue

Would not surprise me at all... I could see Sam and Joe talking about the shrewd move put on by Gorts

Drouin who is younger but not as proven of a commodity playing at a less stressed position than center returned a top prospect + 2nd. GM's aren't as fickle as fans are. People watch a player have 5 bad games and all of a sudden their worth a 5th. 5 game goal streak and they're worth a 1st + 2nd.

Minnesota seems like the natural trading partner for Stepan. He's from there and he trains with Parise every offseason. That team has been searching for a center to play with him since they signed him. RH center playing with goal scoring LW. They both play 200' game. He'd re-sign there as he's close to home.

Stop trying to trade for MacKinnon. He's not available for trade unless someone rocked Sakic's world or Sakic gets rocked in the head, literally. It would take Skjei, Stepan, 1st and Sakic is already off his rockers.

Take away the 1st and I do that trade.. I'm that high on Mackinnon growing into a 70P+ center.

if Stepan is going to be traded, you can bet the return is going to be higher than it was for Brassard.

Rangers value Stepan higher than they did Brassard.

Sakic like Yzerman is not dealing from a place of strength. Teams that miss the playoffs do not get a premium over market value for their players. Duchene has been in the nhl for 8 seasons and only been in the playoffs twice. Nate has been in the NHL for 4 of those seasons and played in 1 playoff. They are both talented players but other teams are not going to act like they perennial all nhl players. Lets get one but for a realistic price.

I think some of the trade proposals I have made with Colorado have been quite fair.

I think your last one that I saw was fair. I like how high Duchene face off percentage is but my comment was a general comment. It was not pointed at you or any specific person. We often have a grass is always greener perspective on this board before we make a trade despite our records. Then once we trade for players we start picking them apart.

Fair, I look at a Step for Matt as essentially a swap. I think Matt's F/O strength and speed could be a nice asset as our #1C, Stepan would essentially become their #2C which is exactly where he belongs behind Nate. I think it makes sense. And obviously they need a LHD so we give up Graves.

Matt and Step both have some miles on them already so it would be a interesting swap. Nate would be the better get if possible but I would consider Matt as well.
