What has galcenyuck shown to deserve a fat contract? are we supposed to believe two coaches continually put him on the 4th line because theyre dumb and hes a elite player? No theres a reason why he got the treatment he did. I look at him and only see red flags.. We can only afford to get him if its on the cheap. we can't over pay for him and his risk

Ovy was also put on the 3rd line this playoffs.

Yes, they're buying him out, but what i'm saying is that we don't know if he's getting bought out before the ED.
If he's not then he has to be protected unless the NHL makes up a new rule for just this case.
I'm not sure why NYR would wait but maybe there would be a logical reason to do it, i'm not sure.

I don't see why you're concerned about it or feel that there will be an obvious paper trail for the fans to follow?

No Im saying that he needs a new contract right now.

Hes a year removed from a 30 goal season, hes not going to get a pay cut.

Thats an unfair statement considering Julien has coached him for what 3 months? That is a bit premature to say.

He played him mostly on the 4th line with two of possibly the worst offensive players in the NHL in the playoffs . I think that says a whole lot

It's not even a matter of a fat raise. The premise of a hjalmerson trade is simply to get cap compliant. They would keep him otherwise. Why trade him for a guy making $1.7m less? He'll get some kind of raise, that's not even debatable, which negates the savings. He said he take a 1 year prove it deal, but you have to imagine it comes in over $3m. That kills their cap.

Listening to 690 tsn at work and Craig button was on and he said the Stepan contract is a very bad one

That makes it a good reason to shop him.

Maximize his value now.

I don't see him declining anytime soon. No reason not to keep him and try and resign him at the end of this deal (hopefully on the cheap). Sure he's getting older, but he looks as quick (if not quicker) as ever and has great off ice relations with Zibanejad from what I can gather.

I don't think that accomplishes much for the Rangers. Either get younger or need a defenseman. Wing is a position of strength

i think it does. hes 28. scores close to 40. and a consistent short handed threat.

in other words, what Nash should be. year in year out.

Yea thats what his agent will say.. Other than that theres logs of counter arguments on paying him a lot.

How many 30 goal scorers frequently see 4th line time with two coaches?
How many are frequently discussed as being available to trade?
How many are frequently talked about not being able to play their position?
How many are frequently discussed as a massive defensive liability?

None of those are going to result in him getting paid less than hes making right now.

If Drouin can get paid 5.5 a year coming off of one good season where he put up half of his production on the PP, Galchenyuk is going to get paid pretty well.

I think Nash is on the way out. Zucc's contract isn't anything crazy so I don't see him leaving, especially after putting up great numbers last season.

because besides hank, zucc is the heart and soul of this team right now. not to mention some of the best on ice vision in the game.

my bad, word response thread.

So, stupid question, if Gorton is looking to trade Stepan, why not Zuccarello? Or Nash?

He very well could be shopping them. The Rangers are tight lipped about this stuff. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the deals the Rangers made were for players that were never discussed at all on the board, or in the media.
