To be fair to Stepan, he's had several seasons of 50+ points, Galy has done it once ... also, Stepan is a MUCH better 2 way player / defender. But when factoring in age and money ... yeah I get ya.

Colorado was as bad as a team has been in a while. They put up the same production last year and half of Mackinnon's production didn't come on the PP.
They don't have similar skill sets either. Mackinnon's infinitely more explosive than Drouin.

I think they have similar skill-sets. Very good skating puck carriers. They aren't shooters, two way forwards, not even playmakers, their game is predicated off their speed and stick skills.
This pretty much and you know what that makes us? The 2016-2017 Avalanche but hey at least we "tank" for a generational talent but then we probably don't win the draft lottery.
Skjei and buch should be untouchable especially the former considering this defense doesn't have the luxury of giving up their best young defenseman who's cost controlled
I think all of Eichel, Matthews, Marner, Draisaitl and Laine are better than MacKinnon. And if he's considered in Crosby/McD light, then I wonder what is thought of those players.
As for Drouin, he scored the same amount of points and more goals in 9 fewer games. He clearly had a better season. And it was only his first full season anyways.
Drouin has way better hands and creativity.

They're not similar.
Mackinnon is much quicker with the puck on his stick. He has legitimate end to end ability every time he touches the puck. Short of McDavid, no one in the league is faster in this regard.
Drouin does not have that ability. Mackinnon is a superior player and I don't really see how this is even a discussion.
JD has become a top 3 overrated player on this site in the last 2 pages.

Can't see how the Habs did bad on this. Sakic overplayed his hand. He probably could have got duchene for sergachev cause it's obvious the Habs are desperate for offensive talent. Bergevin wins this one for sure.

Larkin is, but doesn't have the puck handling ability combined with the speed that a McDavid/MacKinnon have.
If that were true (it isn't), he'd be competing for Art Ross trophies instead of being outproduced by Derek Stepan on a consistent basis.
If you think Derek Stepan is a better hockey player than Nathan MacKinnon I can't help you.

I think MacKinnon is better as well, but I think you are wrong about Drouin. There's one specific play I'm looking for from this season that will prove you wrong, but I can't seem to find it.

It would help if Colorado wasn't the biggest dumpster fire on the planet.
Also Drouin doesn't have better mitts, not even close.

Think about it .lol. You can argue it's different one is a forward and other is a dman but definitely for the future it's not even close . Weber is not getting better and it pains me to say but if drouin comes motivated it's gonna be scary watching him operate in offensive zone

Larkin is only speed.
All those guys are versions of McDavid.
McDavid has just about every part of his game, except a shot.
MacKinnon has the size, and theoretical ability to play an okay center along with the speed and stick skills.
Drouin and Larkin are basically wings.
Drouin the better of the two because he's not only fast like Larkin is, he has good stick skills.

Bottom line Montreal tried and has tried for a while to get Mackinnon but it would have cost them a first , AG and sergavchev at a minimum. They got better value for sure just giving up one asset for drouin. Not even debatable

His top speed and ability to make plays at top speed doesn't compare with Mackinnon. Seriously Mackinnon is elite of the elite in that area.
I don't need YT, I've seen both of them play plenty (even together at Halifax.)
