If you have a chance to lose Ceci, you do it 100% if the time.

But they'll probably do something like...expose Dzingl and lose him.
 
is Ceci that bad? he is still young and doesn't make much. i feel like sens fans are still pretty high on him

I don't think Vegas is going to give us the same value as CBJ for a worse contract and bank on the fact that we're likely going to finish lower on the standings and end up with a low 20 pick instead of a high 20 pick.

if Staal's contract is insured or insureable, I would think Columbus wouldn't have a problem swapping him for Clarkson. Neither would I. Money, we got plenty of that.

I feel like they were high on him two or more years ago. It's been quiet since his debut process, if I remember correctly. Since then, he hasn't improved to Cody BB or Cody AA. Still stuck on CC.

Staal would probably be better in a zone based system. Regardless, Staal has another 21.2 mil left on his contract. People are asking in the Klein thread why he would walk away from 2.75 mil. You think Staal is going to walk away from 21 mil?

Not really to do much with this quote but Bobbop, in your opinion w/the new panthers coach not being a huge fan of analytics do you think a 5/18 move to them is more plausible now? Just curious, thanks!

Yes I do. In fact, I think everyone should read Bob Boughner's quotes on hockey analytics. It's exactly how I feel. And based on the people I know in the game, it's reflective of how most on the inside feel.
 
If Klein decides to leave for Europe, is this a Datsyuk situation where another team could use his cap hit to get to the floor? I'm looking at Arizona...



With Klein out of the picture, that added cap space should go towards getting a competent defenseman to add to this group. Smith and Shattenkirk are the two guys who seem actually worthwhile. If Florida is willing to dump Demers I'd take a flier. But only if Girardi and Staal are gone.

Oh yeah, been saying that for a while. Of course people have their schtick/stance/etc...

But for those on the inside... The "analytics" driven coaches and decision makers in recent years have been: Claude Noel. Dallas Eakins. Tom Rowe. John Chayka.

What were those teams winning percentages under those guys? Did they crack .400?

What do the analytics say?

I was talking to a hockey guy of mine last off-season after the Kulikov and Gudbranson deals.

You wanna talk about players turning on management? That happened in FLA with their decision making. It was a collective WTF!! because of those guys being homegrown and effective under a system that worked for them.

This past off-season, guys were talking about how the fate of those two teams (FLA & ARI) would determine the positions some analytics guys would get with other teams.

If it worked... then yeah great, but most players laugh at some of these guys and how little they know about the game and what goes in.

Players have a grading system they keep, teams grade chances for and against, they measure breakdowns, controlled versus uncontrolled entries and versus who too.

FLA's management group...they are, and I am an analytics guy when it comes to digital and finance.

But that's in tech and finance.

Not in hockey.

FLA's ownership made their Billys through financial analytics in the stock market. They tried that route to get an edge, it backfired, and now they are going with hockey guys for hockey decisions.

Their failure was recognizing that Gallant's system catered to their strengths, and protected Luongo from a lot of slot shots.

The Corsi guys like to run a "Swarm" defense which exposes the slot in favor of outnumbering or suppressing along the walls. Which is to say a good play maker or two will carve that system up.

Two seam passes and it's in the net.

If Klein retires, then his cap hit disappears. Datsyuk was over 35, so his cap hit stayed in place. Part of the CBA.

Not a exactly Datsyuk situation, Datsyuk was on a 35+ contract and Klein isn't so his retirement would just drop the last year of his contract

Since Marc Staal's contract was signed after both his eye injury and multiple concussions, if the contract is insured, what it covers is probably quite limited.

RE: Clarkson, the Blue Jackets are only on the hook for $1.4 million in 2017-18, $950,000 in 2018-19 and $650,000 in 2019-20, the rest is picked up by insurance.

That's exactly why the traded Horton--his contract was not insured at all
