Phaneuf has denied being exposed in expansion. So now what?
He said no to waiving his NMC. So now Ottawa must protect him, unless he changes his mind by Friday.
Right but now who do they expose? I'd guess they protect Methot, Karlsson and Phaneuf? Lose Ceci?
Seems very simple. Don't protect Ceci and hope Vegas takes him.

if Staal's contract is insured or insureable, I would think Columbus wouldn't have a problem swapping him for Clarkson. Neither would I. Money, we got plenty of that.Friedman said LV and CBJ have been working on something to take Clarkson and his $5.25M cap hit that lasts for 3 more season with a NMC/NTC which is almost identical to Girardi except for $250,000 AAV and potentially a different NTC from Girardi's 15 team no-trade list. The LV bad contract open house for a 1st round pick rumors is likely stemming from this type of discussion with Columbus and a few other teams. Now imagine Staal's contract. $5,700,000 compared to Clarkson's $5,250,000. Staal has 4 years left instead of 3. Staal has NMC for all of his remaining 4 years and Clarkson only have 3 years of NMC/NTC. LV is likely willing to just sit on those contract until they end since they're not looking to truly be competitive for 3 years anyway.
CBJ's 1st is right around our value for our 1st. Ours will probably be higher than theirs next year but Staal's contract is much worse. I don't think Vegas is going to give us the same value as CBJ for a worse contract and bank on the fact that we're likely going to finish lower on the standings and end up with a low 20 pick instead of a high 20 pick.
Staal, NYR 1st, NYR 3rd/4th?
is Ceci that bad? he is still young and doesn't make much. i feel like sens fans are still pretty high on him
It pains me to say this because you can't be somebody else and think for them but if Klein is retiring due to the injuries how can Staal sit there and think he has much left? I mean watching Pitt's speed, does he think he can keep up with that anymore? It is tough to watch.

Not really to do much with this quote but Bobbop, in your opinion w/the new panthers coach not being a huge fan of analytics do you think a 5/18 move to them is more plausible now? Just curious, thanks!
Yes I do. In fact, I think everyone should read Bob Boughner's quotes on hockey analytics. It's exactly how I feel. And based on the people I know in the game, it's reflective of how most on the inside feel.
They really value Ceci. Poor man's Tanev in every way.

If Klein decides to leave for Europe, is this a Datsyuk situation where another team could use his cap hit to get to the floor? I'm looking at Arizona...
With Klein out of the picture, that added cap space should go towards getting a competent defenseman to add to this group. Smith and Shattenkirk are the two guys who seem actually worthwhile. If Florida is willing to dump Demers I'd take a flier. But only if Girardi and Staal are gone.

Yea I agree for sure, I wasn't defending us at allThe Penguins gave up 4+ goals 6 times in 25 games.
We did it 4 times in 12 games.

Since Marc Staal's contract was signed after both his eye injury and multiple concussions, if the contract is insured, what it covers is probably quite limited.
RE: Clarkson, the Blue Jackets are only on the hook for $1.4 million in 2017-18, $950,000 in 2018-19 and $650,000 in 2019-20, the rest is picked up by insurance.
