Maybe we can sign Matt Puempel to that $925,000 contract tomorrow and get things rolling.

Some rumblings about deals with Vegas to not picks players and to dump a contract or two on them.

The talks about hockey trades is much lower so far than expected. I am sure Gorton is trying his best to actually pull off some real trades, but I don't expect it to be easy. There has been talk about there being a ton of action in the coming month, I believe it when I see it. Vegas can pick 31 players, but only need about 25 for a roster. They have no farm whatsoever -- and will of course value draft picks. They have cap space. There should be a handful of Vegas trades at least. The draft is coming up. A normal low action year, there should be at least a couple of non-minor trades. But will there be much more than that? I don't have much faith in NHL GMs. I believe it when I see it. From a optimal NHL team governmental point of view there should be at least 15-20 bigger trades. So many teams are not heading in the right direction, cannot solve problems with drafting and free agents, and should just upgrade THEIR teams by moving players they have in an area of strength for players in an area of weakness. But there are so few incentives for GMs to make trades these days. Making a trade is a huge risk, you can lose it. With the Cap, there is no pressure on anyone really. Everyone can just sell the picture of building for the future and keep their job for years despite only building a card house...

Oh yeah, been saying that for a while. Of course people have their schtick/stance/etc...

But for those on the inside... The "analytics" driven coaches and decision makers in recent years have been: Claude Noel. Dallas Eakins. Tom Rowe. John Chayka.

What were those teams winning percentages under those guys? Did they crack .400?

What do the analytics say?

I was talking to a hockey guy of mine last off-season after the Kulikov and Gudbranson deals.

You wanna talk about players turning on management? That happened in FLA with their decision making. It was a collective WTF!! because of those guys being homegrown and effective under a system that worked for them.

This past off-season, guys were talking about how the fate of those two teams (FLA & ARI) would determine the positions some analytics guys would get with other teams.

If it worked... then yeah great, but most players laugh at some of these guys and how little they know about the game and what goes in.

Players have a grading system they keep, teams grade chances for and against, they measure breakdowns, controlled versus uncontrolled entries and versus who too.

Luke Rowe was not an analytics driven coach, first thing he did was to play Shawn Thornton more.

One-Way Deal.

That's the way to do it.

Puemps should sign with a smile on his face.

It's the Victor Svedberg reward... multiple one-way deals without doing jack in the NHL.

He's a good kid too, very likable guy. Just not an everyday NHLer.

He'd be a fine cheap spare . Not expecting much more but talents there

I'm pretty sure Klein has said in interviews before that he wants to spend time with his wife, work on cars, and possibly open up a bed and breakfast. Dude looks like he'd be a crazy metal guy, but he's actually a laid back hippy

On his daily segment on TSN 690 radio, Pierre McGuire said yesterday, that its rumored, and he's heard, that there's a deal involving Galchenyuk and Mtl's 1st this year...he did not mention the other team involved or other players, but said that he did not like the deal for Montreal...the Habs are desperately looking for a top line C...

Many of the craziest metal guys are...

Galchenyuk + 1st is something i'd trade Stepan for, definitely :)

That screams Duchene.

I'd love for it to be Stepan

It's amazing that half a season of "analytics" in Florida killed the decades of success prior to bringing those guys in.

It was way less then half a season, as soon as Rowe stepped into the coaching role the analytics movement was dead.

I'm pretty sure they've made 0 "analytics" moves after that, it's sad really. They should have just kept Gallant if they were giving up this fast anyways.

Is it pretty much public knowledge that they're targetting a center? I don't think Galchenyuk and a 1st is overpayment for Duchene and Joe Sakic was absolutely off the wall nuts about what he was demanding from Montreal. There has to be a quality defensive prospect or a quality young top 4 defenseman coming back the other way. It owuld have to be Sergachev+ as a starting point for Colorado and not Galchenyuk. Unless Sakic asks for both.

You know what that sounds like from Montreal? Another Gomez opportunity. They need a center and are willing to move an ice young piece. The Rangers should be all over it, again.

Even if Galchenyuk is a wing long term, he is going to be a 55-65 point winger. He has already shown he can put up points at a young age. That's valuable considering how long he is under team control.

Another Gomez-esque trade would be huge. Who's our Gomez, though? Even as a 50-60 point 2-way C, Stepan is quite valuable.

Gomez was good for the Habs after we traded him. It's not like he was some anchor that we traded for McDonagh...

Thats a fair deal for Stepan. A top 6 winger in the dog house+ 1st for an established 1C?

I think Montreal fans would riot if their GM did that deal just on the premise of how bad we ripped them off last time we made a major trade and fear of it happening again.

Stepan would help them A LOT.

Pierre LeBrun said the conference call between Daly and NHL GMs stressed the importance of not leaking any trades made with LV to the media. I guess we're going to have to bunker down and wait until June 29383049th to get any news.
