That is God awful

Haha, though, I don't for a second don't believe that that roster wouldn't have a great future. Honka will become a very good D in this league. Myers would do well next to a D like McD. Myers played well for Winnipeg after they got him. Petan is a player who would be unique in our system. Hanifin is not there yet but can become very very solid. Liljegren has great potential. A defense built around McD, Honka, Hanifin and Liljegren has pretty sick potential. Bereglazov and Myers have sick size. Those RHS are also so hard to come by.

We would have a lot of cap space, re Kova and Desharnais. Why not spend it on two short term deals? For the record I don't believe much in either player. Just saying that I rather build for the future and get two vets for the present for free than destroy value by doing nothing.

I don't think they'll have any trouble selling tickets. Vegas is already a destination. The arena will be filled with road warriors. Granted, they probably don't want it to be that way, but I still think they have no trouble selling out the place.

I agree, at least while the honeymoon period lasts, so why are they out to be competitive right away?

My point was more along the lines of Shipachyov and player like him, are going to be on shorter term deals, player that if they work out can be moved for decent returns of futures.

Eventually they are going to need some top tier players, trading picks that could become those players for 2nd tier players just to be a little more competitive off the get go seems counter intuitive to me.

They are going to need top tier player once the honeymoon period wears off, so they are at least good enough to have a draw, if they go the other way, they will just be bad and no longer have the novelty of being the only pro team in Vegas.

Like I said, I have no dies what they will do, the Rangers are happy to have a team full of mostly 2nd tier skaters, getting 2nd tier results, I'm just not sure long term the Vegas market will support that as well as the NY one does.

I think Vegas will go with vet forwards and build their defense through the draft. All their top directors and scouts are guys who have been good at drafting dmen over the years for teams like Winnipeg, Montreal(Mcdonagh and Subban), and Florida. They also hired scouts who have had no problems selecting russians and euros over the years.

Scott Luce is head of amateur scouting, he drafted Dodonov for the Panthers years ago, thats why they are in the running for him now as a free agent.

You are only going to be able to get a minimum of skill in the expansion draft. There will be more serviceable defensemen than forwards available. Most importantly, get the right group and you can build a tight defensive team.

Skilled forwards? You have to find that in a draft.

Pretty big difference between picking exposed players and actively taking a role in ensuring certain players are exposed.
Which sounds a lot like collusion. Something that would probably be frowned upon.

We don't need forwards. We scored plenty against Ottawa.

Because Pittsburgh won with elite forwards everyone thinks that's our problem now. When's the last time Pittsburgh needed 7 to win?

We give up too many ****ing goals.

The arena is right behind New York, New York. It's also a quick walk across the freeway overpass to the In 'n Out. On any given game-night, there will be enough people (tourists) - I am certain of it - who will leave the one-armed bandits and go to a game, if not plan their trip to make sure they see a game.

The arena may be filled with roadies, but I don't think they will have any problem drawing.

Against Ottawa... and Washington

Unless you mean goals... then they still come close in both series even the blue jackets put 5 in the net.

True, no doubt there is little skill upfront for them to chose from, but no one said anything about skilled players at any position, they will grab a mix of both forwards and dmen, like prior expansion drafts, the forwards will likely be a better group than the dmen, especially if teams find ways to protect dmen the way they did last time there was expansion.

They could also possibly take more dmen and go after forwards in free agency like the Preds did in their first year.

Damn, Klein's back must be ****ed. Hope the guy gets healthy because he's a really interesting person behind the scenes

He probably has a role in like GoT/Vikings or something similar waiting if he retires, he's got the perfect look for it ;P

Sure would help our cap situation if he retires though, sounds weird though, leaving $2.7m on the table like that?

Doesn't make sense to me. Obviously everyone has different priorities, and maybe he's done with the NHL life and is more suited for retirement/one-year in Europe or something like that...

I have a hard time believing the Rangers wouldn't be able to trade him to a team that could use him, though. It's not an ugly contract. One year left at $2.9m.

But hey, if that's what he wants to do, that's what he wants to do. Who am I to judge.

So now that could be settled. Time to trade one of the wonder twins at 50% and buyout the other (cringe).

We probably could have gotten a pick from someone but it would have been a late pick and we're not sure Gorton was even looking to trade him, i think this is good for us.

Good luck to Klein if this is what he wants to do.

Not everyone in the world is solely about the money. Klein seems like he's got a lot of pride. Maybe he doesn't want to spend the next year battling through a deteriorating body and potentially watching a lot of games from the pressbox just to collect a paycheck. He's made over $17m already.

It's not said and done apparently but I'd imagine management would want an answer and cap relief as soon as the expansion draft is over.
