Pens won with a nice blend of skill and speed and young guys like Sheary who outwork you every shift. That is how you win a friggin Cup. You don't win **** with Chris Kreider drifting and the brew bros (Hayes and Miller) floating for 60 minutes. Time to bring in hungry players who want to hoist that cup. That was tough to watch last night.

I believe a Girardi buyout is coming. I have a bad feeling Staal will stay. If AV doesn't shelter the **** out of him next year and he is getting top 4 minutes like last year over Skjei then Jeff Gorton is clueless.

Everything I've read from the more credible insiders/talking heads makes me confident that there's a strong market for Vatanen. Those same folks are also speaking of the Bieksa situations as an inevitability. It's tough to not be fairly optimistic about the entire situation, when the only talk of the Ducks being painted into a corner that I've seen at all has come from other teams fans.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider-trading-teams-are-lining-up-for-vatanen~1141351 (Ducks stuff starts just after the 1:00 mark)

Lebrun almost perfectly echoes what Ducks fans have been saying all along, I just don't see a reason to think we are about to get screwed over.

For your sake, I hope you're right.

So Pittsburgh won another Cup. Wonderful. I have seen the Devils go from a Mickey Mouse organization to winning 3 Cups. Should have been four. Fifth Cup for Pittsburgh. The Rangers have won once.
We're here for you if you need to talk about it

Just trade Stepan and Skjei to Minny for Nino, Brodin, and Dumba. Flip Miller for Hanifin and hope a really good top-4 makes up for Hayes being your #2C until Nieves is ready. :sarcasm:

Dan Girardi, come on down
It's time for you to be..... BOUGHT OUT

If the Girardi "news" (NTC) is true, we have 15 teams we could ask for a deal.
Therefore we have to buy-out Staal and then trade G when FA-time comes.
This is possible guys.

no strategic upside to go vs path of least resistance:
buy out Staal
trade G

I see Leafs do
Klein + two 3rds + sweetener
for
Girardi
now that he can be flipped/sent to the A/bought out esp after this year for not so much

staal almost no takers
cost of buyout may be simpler, less than cost of bribe to take him

Mccambridge being named Hartford coach means Arniel is going nowhere. He was arniels assistant at St Johns

I would be shocked if Girardi or Staal are asked to waive for expansion at this point. We'll see though. Hopefully they buyout one and find a way to trade the other somehow.

Wonder if that's because they know he won't be taken, or if they'll have to surrender a pick to ensure he won't be taken.

If available, he might get taken. Same for someone like Dustin Brown. They'll want some vets there for leadership. Two former captains, one winning two cups.

Arniel isn't going to Hartford to be mccambridges assistant. He was probably involved in bringing him in, so I doubt he's going anywhere else either.

Mccambridge has ties to Gorton, the stronger connection is there.

You're right that he won't go to Hartford to be his assistant, but that doesn't mean that he can't be let go.

But if we clear the D like that, then we can add 2 top 6 D-men via UFA/Trade to not play a bunch of rookies :)

Absolutely. My post was just saying what is left over and I'd still be more OK with that group than Staal, G and Klein in the mix. At least you can take a couple months to see where they are at and if they have what it takes to stick around to fill in the gaps as the season progresses. Holden can stick around for 1 more season too. Even in buyout or retention situations, Staal/G/Klein all gone opens space to sign another vet, especially around TDL.

If Nash is also moved at some point, I'm sure they would be reducing some or all of his hit as well. With the young, but maturing, forward group, this should be considered another transition season in hopes of competing for a cup in Hank's last 3 contract seasons. Open up space, lock up top RFA's, see what you have in your top prospects and then start filling in the gaps with the space created.

Kreider-Stepan-Zucc
Miller-Zib-Buch
Vesey-Hayes-Fast
Open-Lindberg-Open

McD-Skjei
Graves-Smith
Bereglazov-Zborovsky-Day-Pionk

Again... starting with the fantasy that Staal and G can be removed from the roster somehow and assuming Smith is signed to multi year contract this off-season and Raanta is taken in expansion instead of Lindberg or Fast, this is(if no other trades are made) the beginning core for next off-season. Nash, Klein and Holden are definitely gone.

I think Graves and Berglazov (2-1/2 pro seasons in KHL already) should be ready to play this season and Holden fills in the top 6 defense. Zboro will get his injury replacement cup of coffee at some point but spend the majority of the season in Hartford.

Looking at this group and roughly estimating some RFA contracts, dead cap (Staal and G buyout/trade retention) NY would have around $8-12M in space to fill in any gaps going into 18-19 season.

So Pittsburgh won another Cup. Wonderful. I have seen the Devils go from a Mickey Mouse organization to winning 3 Cups. Should have been four. Fifth Cup for Pittsburgh. The Rangers have won once.

All we need to do is hope a couple of ping pong balls fall our way and then we can do the same. Super easy.
