LeBrun says that Gorton and Kreider's agent will be talking over the next few days.

No shocker. Gorton has to do his due diligence and at least ask. Still a 110% lock to be traded IMO unless he says some crazy like he only wants 6M at 5 years which will be much much further than he will be asking. He'll get 7.5M for 6-7 years from some team in the offseason.

Hopefully discussing a Sign & Trade.

When it comes to Hank I'll take what Kevin Weekes says all the time. He's someone I'm sure Hank leaned on coming to NY and a guy he probably is friends with.

Friedman was on NHL Network with him and Ryan Callahan. Weekes said that this three goalie situation is something that Hank has struggled with and while he may not be happy with it, he understands it.

When both were asked if he should waive, both said he should do it.

Cally is another guy who probably still talks with Hank, were around each other for nearly 8 years. If there are guys that know him, these are two that would.

He needs to chase a cup, somewhere, as a starter, backup, 1A/1B, whatever it is.

Moving mid-season would be tough for him, but does he want to not play and be on a team selling off or still building a future? Does he want to be the Sedins and play it out? Easier as a skater compared to a goalie.

We get he's loyal and the Rangers have been equally as loyal to him, but being loyal to a player is also setting them up to succeed and three goalies let's none succeed. And being loyal as a player to a team is also knowing when you need to move on.

The situation makes me sick thinking about it, but it's been brewing for a month now and the longer it goes, it could boil over.

Yeah, the writing was on the wall. If you were GM of Toronto, do you bet on Andersson as the sole No 1 + a backup with a pulse or deal a good young forward like Kapanen for Georgiev? Just think the No 1 alternative always had more upside for them, right or wrong. It doesn't if you don't believe in Andersson. Think Toronto still likes his capacity though.
They’ll have to pay him a lot though on an extension. Which is going to be a problem for them. But I guess they’re kicking that can down the road.

Notes on Trouba and Hank.

Rangers should explore trading Trouba and Larry speculates that Hank is getting bought out this summer.

That's a wild article. Proto-Larry material.
Buying out Hank will never happen. That's disgraceful but I think what the quote he mentions could allude to is Hank accepting a trade. I have a hard time imagining though Hank AND Trouba both getting traded and us keeping Kreider. That's kinda how I read the article. Heck, let's trade Skjei, Fast, and Strome; buy out Staal and Smith while we're at it. Lias too if we can.

We could have a bare bones roster of: (and for simplicity's sake, this is ignoring trade acquisitions - like assume all we got back were draft picks)

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Chytil-Kakko
Lemiuex-Fogarty-Kravtsov //did you read the sentence before the lines?
PDG-Barron-Howden

Lindgren-ADA
Hajek-Fox
Rykov-Lundkvist

Shesty-Georgie

 yeeeeeeah, can't see that happening. I frequently look at lineup projections from the point of view of "where do we want to end and how do we get there?" up versus "where are we now?"
Eventually, our d-corp could be
Lindgren, Miller, Robertson. ADA, Fox, Lundkvist. In the big picture of things, that makes Hajek and Rykov expendable. That makes Skjei and Trouba expendable. Staal and Smith are just in the way. But it is definitely hard to see how do we get there from here. That assumes both Miller and Robertson develop on the correct trajectories. Hajek and Rykov can both be used as stop-gaps and traded when the time to transition comes.

How does saving 3 mil in cap space stop us from making smart signings?

The dead cap space didn't force us to give ADA a 1 year deal. If we didn't buy out Shattenkirk, we wouldn't have had the space to give him a contract at all.
Other teams manage to move cap out without buying out players at the rate we do. We have a cache of assets and as much as I opposed the idea before, it may be time to bundle someone with a sweetener.

In retrospect, it was the Girardi buyout that killed us last summer. And Shattenkirk next summer with $6m will be the killer as opposed to Lundqvist. It's a domino effect.

I understand the point you make, but we have to stop the buyouts.

I can’t imagine Gorton cares too much about Hank’s “legacy”. Do not think he’d hesitate a second to buy out Lundqvist if he determines it’s the best move.

I don’t think it’ll come to that, but to disregard the possibility entirely is naive.

Remembering the good old days, roughly this time last year.

Panarin wasn’t going to change the approach or timeline.

Pionk was worthless.

Trouba was the guy we needed on RD.

The Kreider conversations featured a guy named Hayes as the noun.

Memories are beautiful gifts from heaven.

So long as Georgiev remains a Ranger, the door is open to the possibility of Lundqvist not being a Ranger next year. And that chatter would ramp up significantly after the trading deadline.

If, and I mean if, the Rangers and Lundqvist decide to part ways, we'll know about it ahead of time so that Lundqvist will have an opportunity to receive a thank you in a final start at the Garden.

Once again this whole notion that buying out Lundqvist being "embarrassing" other than a nostalgic and emotional attachment , can someone please explain to me why it can't happen? The Ducks bought out Perry, he has a Cup. Is that an embarrassment? Joe Montana lost his job with the 49ers years ago.

Someone leaked this to Larry. Where there's smoke there's fire. He has sources. Callahan and Weekes on NHL Network. Something is up.

Nothing is up.

1. Hey, even Marty left NJ.
2. With Tyler Wall and Adam Huska in the pipeline i dont see the pressing need to keep Georgie no matter how much Rangers brass love him.

I bet the Isles wished they kept Luongo over DiPietro.

Besides, Huska needs to work on rebound control before he's given serious NHL consideration, Wall is too far out.

It is funny people discussed acquiring Trouba for years and now we want to get rid of him.

Definitely don't want the Rangers making roster moves based on prospects. That goes for Kravstov, Lundkvist, Miller, and even Kakko next year. Chytil is just starting to be useful and he's in his third NHL season.
