But I agree with the article that the decision really has to be between Kreider and DeAngelo. The only possible alternative is to take DeAngelo to arbitration to keep the deal shorter and the cost down, and/or to move Skjei without much salary coming back.

Also, Georgiev needs to be dealt.

18 days.

And 9 games!

...Alot can happen in 9 games!

12 per year I mean

I realized what you meant after I already replied, but I still think Kreider might say no. Assuming the worst (rapid deterioration of physical skills and/or career ending injury), he's earned 36M in 3 years as opposed to the 42-49M he'd earn in 7. Even to a millionaire, 6-13M is a lot of money. That's why these guys want security (NMC's and max years and term) when they're negotiating what will likely be their last contract.

Also it would really mess with the Rangers cap situation next year.

This place is way less trolly than the Rangers boards on the old MSG forum that linked from the Rangers.com website before the NHL confiscated it from Dolan.

I mentioned Rangerland.net...where people of the same fan base didn't cut each other down for their opinions. They just had fun and good conversation.

Well 3 or 4 M per WOULD be a hilarious underpayment for a guy who will break 50+ as a defenseman

I agree.

Who could have foreseen that the guy who was a jackass to negotiate with no leverage, will be even more of a jackass to negotiate with leverage

Chabot got 8 million a year coming off 55 points in 70 games. Not sure why it is unreasonable for ADA's brother to laugh at $3-4 million. He is going to ask for every penny, and rightfully deserve it.

Someone who wants to make sure they get him before another team does.

The problem is that we will want a player for TDA that it will hurt a — ton — to give up.

Which forward could we potentially get for TDA that would make it worth it? I am just not sure it’s a realistic scenario. When I look at names that would make me trigger happy re TDA just seem like pipedreams.

Funny, if you said this last season you are laughed off the board because it would have been hilarious overpayment.

Someone said above that Gorton deserves good grades. I agree. But his contract management doesn’t and can become a heck of a lot better.

Anyone think it’s possible to bridge Tony or get 1 more year in arbitration without totally pissing him off? He’s gotta know that after next year a lot of money will be freed up and then he can cash in . But after what happened last off-season I’m not sure he would be happy about that

So then stop reading and go somewhere else. This is what happens here. We argue points to help pass the day along.

I find it just perfect who liked your post. Staal, Staal, I HATE STAAL. The man is 1000X the athlete any of us are and is in the top 10 of all times games played for the club you claim to like.

On a cap note, I wonder how much it will increase with the new TV deal in a year or two. We could be looking at a substantial bump

While he’s one of my favorite players, probably would be my favorite if I knew he was long term, I’d be very surprised to see Tony on next years team. I think he asks for a bit too much and he’s clearly the odd man out going forward. Trouba is our defensive top pairing RHD, Fox is our future PP1 guy and has a nice blend of Trouba and DeAngelo’s qualities, I think Fox ends up as a 1D and when he wasn’t a Ranger I was still sure he’d be a top pairing guy. We need either a high end winger or we need to package Tony with our first for a legit elite dman, who that is, idk

There’s always team elected arbitration. Maybe one of our CBA experts can speak to this. Lundqvist was retained by the Rangers under the same arrangement when he was first arb eligible...one year contract and then big payoff. The problem from Tony’s POV is that the Rangers cannot negotiate with him until January 1. Always the risk of injury.

I understand why Gorton didn’t take the risk considering the player and his background. I would have been happy if we went long term on him, but it was absolutely a risk.

Definitely glad he didn’t give Buch a long contract like some wanted him to, though. So he gets points there.

He sucks now bro. No one cares that he used to be good, isn’t helping us now or any time soon.

When you have to resort to “he’s better than anyone who posts on an internet forum”, you know you’re just arguing for the sake of being a contrarian.

There wasnt space to make a long term deal happen after Panarin signed.

The money will be there this offseason if they want to make it available. we're probably looking at closer to 7 annually than 6 though.

I never said he has been playing well...I just said he's better than anyone of us. And, as much as he has sucked lately, he has made the top 10 in games played for a Original 6 team. No one cares? I don't know your age, but you won't see it again in your lifetime. A little respect maybe.
