If there are teams in the league (are you listening Carolina and Colorado?) who have a sincere interest in Henrik, they have now been alerted that it’s worth a phone call to find out.

Colorado has zero interest in Hank or any goalies as they have two good ones.

Out of curiosity, have any recent Cup winners had dead cap space?

If you include salary retention then the Pens were retaining just over $1m on Rob Scuderi for each season during their 2 recent wins (source CapFriendly, but they only go back to 15/16)

Don't the numbers - the advanced stats - show Henrik still playing very well? Can someone elaborate? I think this should be established first and foremost because that’s how Henrik will be basing his decision. ‘Am I still a good NHL goalie?’
It doesn’t say whether he’s accept a trade but it does tell us if retirement/buyout is a reasonable idea.
I suspect he still has more in the tank.

There is no way around the Rangers not having dead cap space next year.

They are committed at ~7.5M as is in buy outs for next year

If one wants to add S&S combined that is 10M more. (should they not be traded, retire or be bought out)

Lundqvist at 8.5M as a likely back-up, or him as a buyout at 5.5M is basically the choice.

Next year is, in my opinion, they already are at a relatively big cap disadvantage, which equates to a competitive disadvantage, does it really matter as long as they can figure out how to make the team long term better by being in that position (and a little worse position) for next season?

I love Jacob Trouba. He is a guy you win with. A guy who is on the ice in the closing seconds of games to secure a win. He has been mostly everything I expected. I am glad he is here.
Thank you.

In my case, anyway, he is exactly matching my expectations, and I am pleased. Can’t WAIT to see him with a real 1st pairing LD some day...

The team finds backups and turns them into NHL goalies on the trash heap consistently

Shestyorkin is the starter for the next 5-7 years, Georgiev doesn’t have a place here long term.

Buying out Hank would be a dumb decision

Tfw you realize 20% of next season's salary is used up on Lundqvist, Staal, Smith, and Shattenkirk.

Mortifying. Someone build a time machine to 2021-22.
I have been on that plan ever since they decided and announced their rebuild intentions, probably before then.

And yet even with that I think 2021-22 will be a major transition year. They'll have some cap space before hand to do some stuff, yet I still think that is a year where people are going to be like "this rebuild sucks" 2022-23 if they play it right, then it will become "now I get it"

And he’s a bonafide badass who can legit play which we haven’t had since...Beukeboom? He fills a need even if he isn’t beloved by the analytics nerds.

Yeah this is where I’m at.

Im also not sold on Georgiev being anything more than a good backup/decent platoon guy who can get hot but is mostly average. I really think selling high on him now and running with Shesty/Hank tandem is the best move possible. Buying out Henrik Lundqvist is just ridiculous in my opinion. Especially when he clearly still has gas left in the tank. Shesterkin is the future. You want to buy out Hank to hold on to Georgiev who is probably a career backup or average 1b? Idk about that. Buying out Lundqvist but not buying out Staal or Smith?

A lot of hyperbole from Larry in that article too. Shesterkin has solidified himself as the number 1? After 5 games? Come on. I’m as high as anyone on Igor and I think he’s a star in the making but pump the brakes a bit.

Not a lock to be traded by any means.
“No shocker. Gorton has to do his due diligence and at least ask. Still a 110% lock to be traded IMO unless he says some crazy like he only wants 6M at 5 years which will be much much further than he will be asking. He'll get 7.5M for 6-7 years from some team in the offseason.“

$6 million for 5 years is still too much imo. This is a rebuild and not even a playoff team.
