Brooks isn't wrong, it is not a good situation at all for Drury. You shouldn't put yourself in the situation to be forced to resign core members of your team at that age.
I've said this many times, and not sure if I have been taken seriously (can't blame anyone for that), but for me the obviously solution is to walk away from Ziba and don't trade for Eichel (unless of course Ziba was willing to take an extremely team friendly deal, like 7mx5-6 years). Preferably Ziba should be traded.
Others may disagree and I could be wrong, but IMO, Eichel shouldn't even remotely be an option at cost of acquisition and contract. I seriously mean that there needs to be money retained before Eichel should be considered. We can't invest that much money into a center that won't give us an advantage -- more like a disadvantage -- against the top lines around us. Can Eichel match-up well against Tampa's top line? Against the Perfection line in Boston? Against Aho or Barzal? Hughes made strides this last season, how good will he be when he enters his prime? Matthews? Eichel isn't even strong in those type of match-ups. He is great around the net in the attacking zone. He is certainly -- not -- elite at driving play. 10m per for a center like that? Its never worth it from my POV, and I am not even considering the neck issue which I know nothing about. If Eichel was a UFA and was healthy, I wouldn't want Drury to give him 50m over 5 years. Not with the flat cap and cap issues it will give us. Its like Toronto signing Tavares, sure he has helped them, but I think the cost was too high. Having a Tavares don't win you cups.
