They may or may not. But do you want to look back in 3 years and say, a player like Barkov is available and interested in the Rangers, to then in hindsight say, 'man, we shouldn't have given Kreider that long, hefty deal'.

Kreider isn't a superstar, and when he does his disappearing act when he doesn't play a strong, fast game or his head is in the clouds, I wouldn't want to be hamstrung to average player deals at the expense of picking up another highly talented player. I would rather save those dollars we would use on Kreider for a rainy day, or for an emergency fund.

The Rangers aren't competing next year for The Cup.

In theory, they will try to compete for The Cup, and it's possible, but at this point, there are too many question marks on the roster. We haven't even seen a single game of Kravtsov and Kakko, and no clue on how well Chytl, Howden, Andersson will progress going into their 2nd full year.

I think you're way jumping the gun with Barkov. Generally you get the idea that a player might be available maybe a year out from free agency. Anybody can go to cap friendly and say these are the guys who could be available in such a such year but if a guy still has 3 years left he's not going to be negotiating his next contract and players the quality of Barkov don't make it to free agency very often anymore. There's a possibility Hall will next year but there will be a significant drop off after that. Any case I wouldn't not deal Kreider because of what might happen three years from now---what I think would stop me from wanting to do another deal with Chris is term. I could go 5 years with him but not 7 and I would like to keep a new deal under $7 mil per. But anyway I would expect when the time comes Florida will lock up Barkov.

He's an AC with the Coyotes, no?
They replaced him with Housley. Did a great job with PK and defense this year. (I have no idea why, I would have replaced John MacLean) Former minor league coach.

Also heard it was a bit of a cluster f*** when he was let go. Chayka thought Tocchet had talked to him. Tocchet assumed Chayka had talked to him. Happened very late in the coaching cycle.

I’m definitely jumping the gun, because it’s so far away and, like you said, really a lot of these talents could resign with their respected teams before it reaches that point.

Buch coming off the books when everyone else is up.

He’ll have one more RFA season when this deal is done right?

I am almost hoping for an interim solution now until next season. They just started the search way to late...
Yes, because we all know when they started their search and know better about how to conduct it.

73 points is 5 points worse than last season.

The Rangers shouldn't be that bad this season unless they suffer significant injuries to key players. Mika gets hurt and the Rangers have all of the kid centers or Strome and/or Namestnikov(if he still here) are forced to play major minutes. When Zibanejad broke his leg in the fall of 2016, the Rangers still had Stepan and Hayes.

Think of the possibilities of another top young forward on this roster.

Lafreniere

Byfield

Raymond

Holtz

Lundell

The Rangers could use a #1C and this draft has many quality centers.

Byfield all day long. He’s our missing piece.

Please let something happen today.

My guess is they trade Kreider and Names and buy out Smith

This my prediction as well, but one trade this summer and one before the draft. Which one when depends on the offers on the table. I feel both will be worth more at the draft.

Signing Buchnevich indicate to me Gorton has his cap clearing moves lined up now. Does that make sense or am I just whistling Dixie?

You would think but they could just buyout Smith and then they are back in the same spot

So they don’t have to have anything else lined up . Lemieux and DeAngelo get say 3-4 million combined so a move will come but not necessarily in a weeks time

That’s a good deal for buch. Would have loved to have given him 3 years at that aav

well they had to sign him either now or Monday-ish

But I'm sure he has an idea of how to get under the cap

In an interview after the season ended, Gorton talked about Chytil. And said that they had not decided if he would play center or right wing. Is this one of the reasons Buch is mentioned in a possible trade?

IMO no Chytil is far from pushing anyone out of the lineup. I think if they are shopping buch it’s because 1) someone is offering a ton and/or 2) they don’t want to commit to him long term on his next contract
