That would coincide with when this team should be competing but they may not have the space to make that type of move

They may or may not. But do you want to look back in 3 years and say, a player like Barkov is available and interested in the Rangers, to then in hindsight say, 'man, we shouldn't have given Kreider that long, hefty deal'.

Kreider isn't a superstar, and when he does his disappearing act when he doesn't play a strong, fast game or his head is in the clouds, I wouldn't want to be hamstrung to average player deals at the expense of picking up another highly talented player. I would rather save those dollars we would use on Kreider for a rainy day, or for an emergency fund.

The Rangers aren't competing next year for The Cup.

In theory, they will try to compete for The Cup, and it's possible, but at this point, there are too many question marks on the roster. We haven't even seen a single game of Kravtsov and Kakko, and no clue on how well Chytl, Howden, Andersson will progress going into their 2nd full year.

Yeah I'm no longer rooted, so I couldn't use the great root apps. I found Blokada and it works really well, as long as you don't subscribe to every single list they offer (then some stuff that shouldn't be filtered gets caught). If you try it and like it, I'd be happy to share my config with you.
Just installed it and already having a way better experience with this site, thanks again.

I'm on stock android (unlocked pixel) so I never felt the need to root my phone, if I were stuck with TouchWiz or some other garbage I might feel differently.

Yeah, well, I'm on a Galaxy S7 Edge. So TouchWiz is my life. I had it rooted before, but the US variants, you can't unlock the bootloader and you basically have to flash these developer kernels that make the phone run incredibly hot (I couldn't run new games, the phone would overheat and kill apps or shutdown). I was on Marshmallow forever, wanted to step up, and just said f*** it I'm upgrading. On Oreo now, the new Samsung Experience is actually very tolerable.

In an interview after the season ended, Gorton talked about Chytil. And said that they had not decided if he would play center or right wing. Is this one of the reasons Buch is mentioned in a possible trade?

73 points is 5 points worse than last season.

The Rangers shouldn't be that bad this season unless they suffer significant injuries to key players. Mika gets hurt and the Rangers have all of the kid centers or Strome and/or Namestnikov(if he still here) are forced to play major minutes. When Zibanejad broke his leg in the fall of 2016, the Rangers still had Stepan and Hayes.

Think of the possibilities of another top young forward on this roster.

Lafreniere

Byfield

Raymond

Holtz

Lundell

The Rangers could use a #1C and this draft has many quality centers.

We really need to move away from the narrative that we're a playoff team. It's not just about analyzing the opening line-up (and concurrently assuming everything goes perfectly and no-one needs development). It's also that playoff teams have NHL depth. We have prospect depth. It's totally worth getting excited about, but for the right reasons...

Lanny- Yeah, I am not worried about talent at all. But we are de facto not a team. Every part of our team is changed, it just takes times to creat a good PK, PP, four lines, three pairings.

This league is so much about not losing games, doing the small things. At the same time, marginals are really small. All of a sudden we win games due to luck, and some more games due to goaltending, and all of a sudden we have played 10 games and has a great record and we hit a streak and everyone peaks and we win a lot the coming ten and can build a PO record on that. But would I bet on that? Definitely not.

Just look at Colorado, they had one of those years and got 112 pts with a young team in 2014 I think. The year after they missed the POs.

I can’t wait for the season to begin but I have tempered my expectations (much as I have for my golf game which I am dusting off tomorrow for the first time in over a year). We will be competitive but won’t make the playoffs IMO.

Would love to miss and pick Top5 but the gods shone once... doubt they will again for a while

There are more people arguing with the idea of people thinking we’re a playoff team than there are people actually saying we’re a playoff team.

And you have another day of people talking about the why and why shouldn't the Rangers sign Kreider, and for how much... which has been going on for what the last 18 months?

I mean they just spent 20 million on 2 players. If they're still a bottom team, that would not look good on Gorton. Assuming Kreider isn't traded.
