So that leaves Scuderi and Drewiske as the team's oldest and wisest defensemen. Yeah, I don't think that's a very smart idea. Hence the reasoning for adding Regehr.

I don't get how someone can't see that Regehr upgrades the Kings defense.

How are older and wiser always better?

Or maybe we could have gotten someone older, wiser, and faster?

Regehr is a big, steady, veteran presence on the blueline and exactly what we need. Going into the first round with a defense that, outside of Scuderi, has an average age of 23, is prone to brain farts, and playing in front of an inconsistent Jon Quick is not a recipe for success.

Do you honestly watch Kings games and say to yourself "The Kings could use more speed on the blueline." Are Doughty, Voynov, Martinez, Muzzin, Ellerby not mobile enough for you?

The Kings needed an experienced defenseman who can log big minutes on the PK and clean up in front of the net. You know, exactly what Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene provided that the team has been missing all of this season.

I just like the fact that players actually want to play in LA now. Do you think winning a cup has anything to do with it? I doubt it ;)

They saw what Stoll was hitting and wanted in on it...

For the price that St. Louis paid, trade him after the season or just waive him and write him off as a trade deadline rental.

You keep saying that the Kings can just waive a huge salary and write JBow off. Suppose the Kings put him on waivers and no one takes him. What do you do then?

Where does Regehr fit right now? Opposite Martinez?

Now let's assume the Kings get Matt Greene, but not Willie Mitchell back for the playoffs. Maybe we have:

Doughty-Scuderi
Voynov-Regehr
Martinez/Muzzin-Greene

That's pretty much how I see it. Possibly Regehr with Doughty but I don't know if he can play those kinds of minutes.

One of Martinez or Muzzin will be gone at the deadline for a top six winger. Just a hunch.

My guess is

Muzzin-Doughty
Scuderi-Voynov
Regehr-Ellerby
Martinez

Or swap Amart and Ellerby, though I have a feeling they would prefer to shut down opponents over score more with the bottom pairing.

Well, I watched the game yesterday and was thinking we could use a guy who would destroy these Stars who are walking into the zone along the boards during the third period. But that's just me.

So you're okay with the Kings going with Martinez and Ellerby and Muzzin into the playoffs? Have you not noticed how easy it has been for opponents to penetrate through the middle of the ice and the slot when entering the Kings zone or in shorthanded situations? I'm guessing you don't if all you have to offer is that Regehr is an older and slower version of Matt Greene. You must've been one of those posters from last season who wanted to get rid of Greene as well.

I feel like Martinez's days are numbered.

Muzzin has been solid and he brings more offense than Amart ever will imho.

I like Amart but IF Regehr, Greene, Mitchell/Scuderi return next year there will just be no room.

Scuderi Doughty
Greene Voynov
Regehr Muzzin
Ellerby

Who really knows about Mitchell?

Kings were going nowhere in the playoffs with that young D. Regehr gives us a better chance to win which is all that matters right now.

Good addition.

Uh, no. Why not drop the assumptions.

I think if they were going to spend that much to upgrade on the defense (which is not performing as terribly as some imagine IMO) you should get someone with better footspeed than Matt Greene.

The end.

Not terribly happy about this. I've been saying for YEARS that the 2015 draft will be just as deep as 2003, 1991, and 1979. Please note the 12-year patterns. Dean should have given up the 2nds in 2013 and 2014.

Oh well. He's still got a couple of years to acquire more picks for the big, big 2015 draft.

How can you possibly know this? Were there 11-year old kids you were scouting in 2008? That's just bizarre.

13 is a very good draft and 14 while not close to 15 (though 14 has 7 Eu kids who are looking really really good) is still going to be full of solid kids.

I think Amart gets moved for a winger in a couple of days. Sutter and co seem to really like Ellerby.

Muzzin-Doughty
Scuderi-Voynov
Regehr-Ellerby
Drewiske

Then next season...

Muzzin-Doughty
Voynov-Mitchell
Greene-Regehr/Ellerby
